Just wanted to say from his short cameo today - I think it’s clear he is going to be the next youth player that will become a first team regular. He looks such a good young player. Didn’t look out of place against a premier league team (albeit a very poor one).

He’s got an array of different style of midfielder to learn from as well, all with different qualities which if he can take on board could really propel him forward. Good luck to the lad, hope he keeps pushing forward

He certainly seems the next to come through.
Been very surprised how well he just slides into the team.

Has Wharton-level potential in my view.
Or at least could have, I’d like to see a bit more of him to confirm, but he’s exciting.

The game leant back in our favour when he came on. Very good performance, probably needs to bulk up a bit slightly but a real talent on the ball

Bauress made his first team debut as a sub against Crawley in the League Cup two seasons ago but lost all last season to an ACL injury. Come back this season and has looked assured in the under 21s but my one disappointment is him not getting a loan because he needs some first team football now.

I’d rather like to see him get that with us when we can. I know it’s not the same as regular first team football but there’s something I like about just seeing a player progress straight in to the first team squad like Dwight.

Realistically though the level we're playing at he isn't going to get a sniff with us. If we were mid table and skint maybe.

No reason we can’t bring him on if we were in commanding positions. As we should be.
He’s proved himself worthy against a premier league team for sub appearances today.

Dwight came in and stayed in so removed any need for a loan.

Dwight was starting game after game which is what Bauress could have done with. I believe we tried to find a suitable club.

Surprised we didn’t find one, really. But having not done id love to see him on the bench and getting some minutes for us.

Which is why we needed to get him the loan really to ensure he got those minutes which he won’t really get in our league games.

Andy Wharton was good at the level we were at. All other Whartons are poor imitators
Bauress hopefully can do much better

A lot of the time it takes injuries for these players to get that initial run. Shame it has to work that way but that stakes are too high and there are so many factors at play working against them.
What I will say on Bauress - very often, kids getting their first minutes are so far off it they stick out. Not only has he slotted in seamlessly, he’s actually affected both of these FA cup games he’s featured in.
I think we would all love to see him break into the first team. Dwight aside, it’s been a hell of a long time since a player has made the step up.

Problem is he's got Brownhill, Cullen, Laurent, Hannibal and Shelvey ahead of him now. And if we go up we'll be looking to strengthen again. He needs to go and play regularly somewhere.

You never know, injury to Cullen and he’d be straight in for me. Well ahead of Laurent anyway.
I just like to see young lads playing for us though.

He’d be ahead of two of them if I were picking the team. Well at least one.
I just think we have to find ways to get young players minutes. Cullen doesn’t have to play 95 minutes every game, for example. Scoring more than one goal in a game might be helpful in that respect though.

Him and McDermott look very tidy players. Joe is a deeper holding playing a lot like Cullen, McDermott looks like a number 10. Both hopefully have long futures with us

But he’s not well ahead of Laurent. It’s Laurent who is in the squad or team every game. He’s played in two cup ties and done well, he plays well in the under 21s, but a loan and regular first team football could have served both him and us well.

Thanks for all the replies. He’s obviously a very promising young player and having just watched the latest episode of the Mission to Burnley series, his coaches all seem to rate him highly, along with SP. Fingers crossed he goes on to make the grade.

He moves the ball quicker than any of our present midfield, more often than not with a first time pass. I'm disappointed that he hasn't been on the bench more since his debut at Reading. Hopefully he'll learn a lot off Shelvey.

He’s not in Parker’s eyes no, but he would be in mine. I have a bias towards the Academy lads though and would just love one to break in to the team to see how they do.
Obviously he’s not going to start, but I’d like to see him get minutes as we can afford (a few goals up - which surely must happen at some point), be back up for Cullen if he’s injured, but get his game time captaining the U21s.
I’d feel very differently if we were in the premier league.
I assume we tried to loan Vetro too? And from what I’ve seen of Benal, I’m surprised he didn’t go out. And Sambo.

The problem is that he would need a Championship loan as he would be a cheat code player any lower. Burton fans are saying Dodgson is a cheat code

Tony, you’ve got a lot of knowledge of the youth set up etc - I’m trying to remember players who went out on loan to get that experience then came back to make in impact for us?
I just feel as soon as players go out on loan they end up signing elsewhere eventually and we never see them again in a Claret shirt.
It’s a difficult one as the lad is unlikely to get thrown into a promotion battle and even less likely a PL team next season if we go up, but if he goes to Dundee or Burton or wherever does that improve his chances of playing for us?
It’s a tough journey for young pros that’s for sure.

Genuine question Tony. How often have our younger players been out on loan and come back more ready for our first team? I do sometimes wonder whether it's better for their development to stay in and around our first team, play against them in training, and show what they can do in cup games and in odd cameos in the league.
Or maybe im thinking too much about first team readiness and not about the players development, though I think they go hand in hand.

Tend to agree. Very few of the players who go out on loan make it in our first team. They are in a shop window. Get him training with the first team and give him a bench slot
