Food count for Hull on 12/02

I present for your counting pleasure this dubious tin of Tropical Sun Jamaican Breadfruit, courtesy of the local Sri Lankan corner establishment.
Please provide your totals for the following three elements.
Breadfruit pieces
Salty liquid
Best before date
The only clue I will give re the best before date is that it is some time in the future. Those Sri Lankans do have standards you know...
Any partial pieces will be added together to form a whole piece
Closing time will be 18:45 on Wednesday. Whilst I'll be out fishing all day they've now got WiFi so shouldn't be any issues

Logically they must be descendants as I don't believe that bread fruit originated in the Caribbean
One of my favourite grave captures is that of Captain Bligh, which is adorned splendidly with a bread fruit

For clarification - the best before date only quotes a particular month. So there is no need to provide a specific date, only the month

May I just ask for clarification, if the jooooos is going to be measured in ml or grams? The reason being, that in Saturdays food count, the OP stated joooos in ml, but when it came to measuring time, it showed it was weighed on a scale. I didn't want to say anything at the time as I didn't want to kick up a stink and have Eloise have her 5 points erased

I'll be weighing it, hence the joooose will be in grams

I think you might want to ask if they want to change their joooooose quantities, as they've all gone for ml

The scales I use when hosting a food count, I can change the mode to mls, gr, ozs etc. On the previous foodcount, on the picture for the Olive juice, I think you will find the setting had been changed to ml.

Ahhh yes, I just went back and looked at Saturdays food count (before you just posted the pic), zoomed in and saw 63ml. I didn't know scales did that nowadays as I don't own any. So thank you for clearing that up for me Eloise. You learn something new everyday.

Isn't 1 ml = 1gm ? I could easily be wrong as I left school many, many years ago.

Tbf depends on the liquids density/viscosity ... but I always go basically 1ml=gm

Like many other food counters not something I have come across before.
Hoping the artist's impression on the can is accurate I'll go with
11 Breadfruit pieces
171g Salty water
Best before date 04/2025 ( I think it might be a can that's been at the back of a cupboard for a while )

Salt water is approx 2.5% heavier than fresh water. Using the naked eye to try and judge the volume in millilitres to within 2.5% accuracy is never going to be remotely possible so weighing, whilst not 100% accurate, is the best option available
Better to weigh and be slightly out, than to try and judge the volume and be more wrong

Mine weigh in ml also but it's complete nonsense as ml is a measurement of volume.
A quick test shows that the value for g and ml are always exactly the same, which of course they would be as it has no clue what is measured/weighed so just assumes that everything is pure water.
Rather pointless feature which will only ever provide inaccurate results unless you're weighing pure water

Oops, had to take a phone call
The results are
Breadfruit pieces: 5
Joooose: 63
BBD: Dec 2025
Looks the breadfruit pieces fooled everyone, myself included.
Nearest/exact answers as below

- Screenshot_20250212-184834.png (200.33 KiB) Viewed 786 times
That results in the following awards
Jasper64 - 5 points for being closest to the breadfruit pieces
Claretmisterg - 5 points for being closest with the joooose count
Longsider - 10 points for getting the BBD date correct
Croydon Claret - 3 points for being here
If anyone is interested the breadfruit has the texture, and pretty much the taste, of a boiled potato but with a slight after taste of pear.

I cooked them up with some paprika, cumin, turmeric, coriander and olive oil. Looks burnt but that's just the colour of the rub. Essentially treat them like potato wedges
They were ok but won't be buying another tin
