Starting eleven vs hull
What do we think the starting eleven will be?
Certainly seems to be a bit more up in the air after Saturday

Roberts CJ Esteve Humphreys
Cullen Sarmiento Hannibal
Anthony Flemming Foster
Hladky, Worrall, Pires, Sonne, Laurent, Redmond, Benson, Edwards, Barnes
I thought Sarmiento was great against Southampton and would be keen to see him just ahead of the other two (Assuming Brownhill is injured).

Does Parker stick (winning league team and good performance v Oxford) or twist (some standout performances in the cup win)? I think it’ll be the former.
I’m keen to see Hannibal alongside Cullen, though.

I like the look of this, although I would personally swap Benny and Anthony to the other sides. Maybe go with Pires as well at left back…..
I suspect Laurent will play but I agree with you by playing Shelvey for his quality on the ball.

Probably the best team that's ever turned out at this level.

Re: Starting eleven vs hull
Boatshed Bill has the most likely team, but personally after the game last week against Oxford, and bearing in mind there are two games in quick succession this week with a Saturday lunchtime game following a Wednesday night, I'd be inclined to make a couple of changes. Firstly, I'd replace Laurent with either Sarmiento or Shelvey, because Laurent wasn't especially effective against Oxford and feels like a player who might be more valuable adding fresh legs against Preston. Secondly, I'd be tempted to leave out Flemming, who was also ineffective against Oxford and has generally been less impressive at home than away - i'd play either Benson or Edwards instead. I'd also play Pires against Hull, and save Humphreys for the Preston game. That would leave us lining up something like:
----------Trafford
Roberts Egan Riley Esteve Pires
--------Cullen Hannibal
Benson Sarmiento Anthony
----------Foster

If Shelvey has 60 good minutes in him Id like to see

Not sure if Shelvey's up to speed yet so I'd drop Hannibal back and have Sarmiento behind Foster

No chance he's going to drop regulars on the back of a cup game.

Re: Starting eleven vs hull
Laurent took a heavy knock in a block tackle 5 minutes into the 2nd half and was struggling for a good half hour, should have been subbed but SP left him to run it off, fingers crossed he's actually fit for Wednesday, I'd have also had Ashley on for Flemming on the hour. Imo neither foster nor Flemming can play up top on their own, Flemming looked lost to be honest. To get the best from Flemming and fozzy they need to be in a 442 imo. Humphreys would be the safer bet but get what you mean with Saturday dinner time kick off re Pires, which should be OK now that we have threats on both wings re Benson /Edwards, which enables foster to play where he's most affective.claretspice wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 8:22 pmBoatshed Bill has the most likely team, but personally after the game last week against Oxford, and bearing in mind there are two games in quick succession this week with a Saturday lunchtime game following a Wednesday night, I'd be inclined to make a couple of changes. Couldn't care less, so long as we attack. The squad is looking stronger every week , I'm happy to mix it up. Keep everyone sharp, fit, and hungry.

Re: Starting eleven vs hull
The one change that I could see would be Sarmiento for Laurent, Spice. As for Shelvey, I reckon he needs a month in the gym. It's nice to be able to stroll around looking for the opportunity to launch a "Hollywood" pass, but that's really not what we are about.claretspice wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 8:22 pmBoatshed Bill has the most likely team, but personally after the game last week against Oxford, and bearing in mind there are two games in quick succession this week with a Saturday lunchtime game following a Wednesday night, I'd be inclined to make a couple of changes. I’d like to see:
Trafford
Roberts…….CJ….Esteve………Humphries
……………Cullen……….Hannibal……………..
Anthony………Flemming…….Edwards (60 mins),
…………………….Bashley (60 mins)
Feel free to swap Luca / Benny / Sarmiento on the wings as appropriate.
Ashley will give Flemming a lesson in back to goal hold up play, Flemming can run off and behind him. Ask the wingers to run at the fullbacks and feed Ash with crosses and balls to feet.
Ash knows how to create chaos in this division.
Swap Ash for foster when Ash gets tired

Along with several others, Laurent will have had 8 days off so I expect him to start.
Trafford
Roberts CJ Esteve Humphreys
Cullen Laurent
Anthony Sarmiento Foster
Flemming
He may of course decide to play Foster through the middle with Flemming and start Edwards.
Quite a few options he has with the strength he has to choose from.

Re: Starting eleven vs hull
None of the players who started in the cup win did enough or are yet fit enough to start tomorrow. I expect the same team that started the last league game.
Re: Starting eleven vs hull
Same team as Oxford I would think
However arguments could be given for 4 or 5 from Cullen onwards.
If it is 0-0 with 25 to go I would bring on Shelvey, Edwards, Barnes and Benson and take off Laurent, Flemming, Anthony and Foster.
Obviously take this with a pinch of salt as some players might have great games, but just highlighting that we now seem to have more options off the bench rather than having 5 defenders on there.

Re: Starting eleven vs hull
Yeah we certainly have several options from the bench that could change a game. So long as the changes are made early enough if we need a goal.

I think he'll play it "safe" and field the same team we saw vs. Oxford. Maybe some cameos again from Edwards, Shelvey and Benson.

Hannibal has played twice in CM and been the best player on the pitch both times. Him next too Cullen is a must now, its got the makings of a class partnership.

Re: Starting eleven vs hull
Tricky game versus Hull I reckon.
Id like nothing better than to see a game where Burnley are on the attack for much of the match. However I think Parker will still keep the fairly rigid formation and build from the back as usual.
I think we as supporters should be careful that we don't have this view that we will walk all over teams in the lower half of the Championship - it just doesnt happen most weeks. Most teams on their day can at least put up a decent defensive show and eak out at least a draw against any other team in the league. The teams at the bottom may not have the fire power to worry us but a defensive block for 80 mins and a late break / lucky strike can put paid to most teams if they are not careful. Sheffield United were expected to walk all over Hull at Bramall Lane recently but lost 3-0 so we cant afford to take them lightly. I dont think Parker will underestimate them and as such will be careful not to be foolhardy in his formation.
Subject to fitness levels I think Parker's team for tomorrow could well be;
Trafford
Roberts - CJ - ESteve - Humphreys
Cullen, Hannibal, Sarmiento,
Anthony, Flemming, Foster
I dont think Shelvey, Edwards, Benson and Barnes are fit enough for 90 mins at the moment but could have an impact from the bench. UTC

I think we all know SP will go back to the team that started against Oxford last week, but he knows what he has on the bench now. I'd expect to see the likes of Benson, Shelvey, and Edwards if we're chasing the game with 30 minutes to go.
