Nostalgia.

Looking at the TVs in Dixons window watching the football scores on Ceefax refresh every minute and hoping for a last minute winner.

Ceefax was great - used to check it for the sport every day.

One of my mates worked for the PA and wrote the Ceefax sports pages regularly.
We were both big Alan Partridge fans and it was at the time of his TV series Knowing Me Knowing You. During this series he started every show with a chat with the house band led by Glen Ponder.
At the same time Glen Hoddle was I think England manager (or managing a club)

My mate contacted me one day and said check the Ceefax football headlines - as I checked them he had put a big headline about Hoddle which started “Glen Ponders….” - I can’t remember the rest of the headline but it was something along the lines of a move to another club or something

That’s my favourite memory of Ceefax !!

And before that stood in the same place watching the results come in on the teleprinter. Usually quite a few of us watching.

The last Burnley game I followed on Ceefax was Grimsby away when we lost 6-5.

I can remember being in a hotel in Amsterdam following a penalty shoot-out on ceefax. Fairly sure it must have been between 2000/1 season. Was it Scunthorpe in the FA cup? Tony has both matches down as draws on the results page for that season.

I remember that at work, we used to leave ceefax on with the radio.

At least you weren't in the away end then - I still find it hard to fathom what I watched that night!

Looking back it's easy to understand how we conceded 6; we started with Graham Branch and Arthur Gnohere at CB... which was made all the more bizarre when you consider Steve Davis was playing CM! We ended the game with Paul Weller, Glen Little, Robbie Blake, Alan Moore, Gareth Taylor, and Dimitrios Papadopolous all on the pitch.

I remember walking off saying "if someone had told me we were going to score 5 before kick off, I would have at least expected a point!". A bizarre night that will likely never be beaten for sheer farce!

David Coleman reading the teleprinter on Grandstand was the best!

Recall that fondly. I think my favourite was in 1960, the 5th round of the F A Cup away at Bradford City. I was only7 years old then and was relying on the teleprinter for final scores. My eldest brother came in from playing football and told me we were 2-0 down with only a few minutes left( my other brother was actually at the game). We waited for the final score to appear resigned to a defeat. Up came the final result with Bradford City 2 and Burnley ....... 2. We couldn't believe it and began to really believe that the 'double' was possible. Happy days indeed for a football mad 7 year old.

Was 315 the live score ticker tape? I guess that was the original Soccer Saturday.
