No shock to see Overton not perform with the ball, good chance he will get to do the same with the bat. Does he get picked as an allrounder for his fielding ? He has never looked International standard, would have been much better picking another specialist spinner.

This partnership of Root and Buttler needs to stick around for another 10 overs.
Evenly poised at the minute.

Once again our cricketers have fallen victim to their own hype.
Our bowling has been very ordinary with not much thought going into it. Too much short pitched stuff giving runs away too easlity
I am still puzzling why some of our batsmen try to knock the cover off the first ball when a new bowler comes on. Smith was very guilty of this today and there have been a few more durnig the two matches.
A re-think is needed.

Just not good enough. 3 white ball tournament failures in a row. Buttler has been an awful captain.

Who would have thought that rocking up to a tournament without bothering to put proper preparation in wouldn’t pay off.
After the last two as well.

Absolute crap, hopefully it is a wake up call for the over-hyped players and the ECB. It won't be though.

Absolute joke
McCullum sat there laughing
Smith coming in at No3 never played in a one dayer before.
No doubt they’ve been practicing their golf instead of doing nets , complete embarrassment.

That’s down to McCullum and Buttler both need to go .

You've hit the nail on the head Ashington, not much thought going in to either batting or bowling.
Too much short pitched stuff being bowled, just there to be hit.
What happened to up in the blockhole.
And far too much bazball, just giving wickets away far too easily.
Disgraceful defeat.
We'll still be picking Crawley for the Ashes no doubt.
Although a few games to get through before then.

Interesting to hear the pundits NH/ MA on Sky
Basically saying we play 50 over cricket with a
20 over attitude - bish bash bosh and not a ounce of
game management- wickets don’t matter that critically
in T20 but blimey we had no game plan today to execute.

Whatever you do, don't criticise them, though! You're not allowed to upset the modern sportsman/ woman

How much 50 over cricket do these lads play now though? None with their counties, too busy trying to prop up the ECB vanity project the Hundred.

How much do India and Australia play? 50 over format will be the next to go.

The bowling dept must be the poorest in one day internationals only Rashid is worth his place as Archer and Wood are never fit and the rest are also rans ,and in the batting dept Salt and Livingstone should be consigned to the 20 over bash.

To be fair we ve got back to where we were before Eoin Morgan became captain and how we ve been for much of the time before except 1992 world cup maybe . Doesn't help not playing format much since 2019 world cup win

I just knew Duckets comments this winter about we are focussed on the champions trophy and if we do well there all will be forgotten, would come back and bite them. We are just an awful white ball team at the minute, I have no idea what the answer is but we need a full reset and I suspect Buttler will fall on his sword sooner rather than later sadly!

Said it for some time - too many players in on reputation alone.
Livingstone - I just don't get it. He's in as a "finisher" but never finishes anything - he's miles off an international cricketer, miles off. I personally wouldn't have him in the T20 side either.
Archer and Wood rarely fit - what's the point? Even if you get them fit they're only good for 2 games before they break down again. Means you're constantly changing the team around.
Salt - one ton against the might of the Netherlands aside, I can't remember him making a score? Stand to be corrected. How often do you have to fail before you're dropped?
Root the only batter with a brain it would seem - but much like test cricket, too often left to do it on his own. If Brook and Buttler bat sensibly along side him they walk that game yesterday.
Obsessed with bowling cutters/ half track slow balls / back of hand nonsense. Hit a length, bowl yorkers and do that really out there thing of bowling to your field ffs!!!! Get the basics right and they will improve massively - too much theory in the England set up right now. Rashid the only bowler worth his place.

England playing SA
Salt is a brilliant t20 batter, not sure you can be that brainless in 50 over cricket. 9 off the first over with a ball to go and he’s swinging for the bleachers.
18/1 after 2

Then Smith walks out, faces 2 deliveries and goes the exact same brainless way he watched his team mate go 5 minutes ago.

They look like they just don't want to be there.
They can't even muster enough to play for a bit of pride.
Big, big changes at the top needed if we are to turn this apathy around.
