Can someone please teach this lot how to take and execute a corner? I dread to think how many we’ve had this season and produced absolutely nothing. If you had a quid for every time our corners hit the first man you’d be loaded.

Probaly better asking the set piece employed by the club?

It was obviously near post corner practice at the training ground last week - obviously practice didn’t go well

Still trying to get over that free-kick when Sarmiento had been bundled over on the edge of the area in the first half. Barely made it into the box, never mind past the first man.

Rancidly inept. Do we actually work on them at all?

Imagine where we'd be if we'd nicked even a couple of those 0-0s with a set piece goal.

I’ve always said it, but any professional footballer who cannot get a set piece past first man, needs to be fined a weeks wages. Drives me insane.

I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that since the set piece coach has come in last summer, we’ve been absolutely dreadful from an attacking perspective. Corners, free kicks, throw ins - the lot. Off the top of my head I can’t remember the last time we threatened from a set piece. We have height and players who should be able to whip in a decent ball.

If you worked in a sales role and didn’t make a sale in 18 months, you wouldn’t have a job…

You’d think eventually we’d just hit Steve’s head through the law of averages but apparently not.

Dyche probably has some time on his hands, in between working on his golf handicap maybe he could pop in a couple days a week to help out with set pieces? :D

There only needs to be a little tweak here and there, but the main problem to any routine, is the quality of delivery and timing of a run, to meet the delivery.

Apart from Arsenal this season, I'm not sure what the average strike rate is for 'set piece goals'. Unfortunately we don't have a set piece specialist.

However, Preston's second goal against us on Saturday, is the type of goal we should be striving for, more often than we seem to manage.

We've had some cleverly constructed goals, most recently against Sheff Wed, the Brownhill and Roberts goals.

Hopefully, now that Edwards has slotted in, his touch and vision will allow others to benefit, when it comes to breaking down packed defences.

Edwards has already showed that he is an expert corner taker. Next step needed, please.

Not really an Isolated Burnley issue by the looks of it

7 goals from that 2.9% are from Derby and look where they are in the league ......

It is frustrating .....but it looks quite difficult to actually take one from the cricket field end, there's not much room & a steep drop-off. I may be imagining it but it looks better at t' other end like..tha nose!

I think you could pick any set piece coach out of a hat and appoint that person for a better outcome.

I think the word you're looking for is 'butchered'...

Joking aside it's beyond a joke that we seemingly can't even manage the bog-standard 'stick it the mixer' corner and hope the law of averages sees a centre-half get a head on it.

Pires showed vs Luton in the first game that he can whip in a decent cross. Not sure what's preventing him from doing the same thing since then.

It's a strange one...lumping a corner kick to land around the penalty spot in the howling gales and ankle deep mud of Shadlock was something the local adolescents could do wearing bell bottom levis and big brothers handed down convers without causing any gasps of amazement.

Much bigger ask nowadays clearly.

I’ve been one of the biggest critics of our set piece coach and rightly so in terms of attacking set pieces. Since Edwards has been on corners he’s put two or three right into the six yard box and caused problems - a PE teacher could tell you that tactic, never mind a set piece coach. Some of the other abominations have been incredible to see.

However, the same guy will also be responsible for our defending of opposition set pieces and I think it’s fair to say he’s smashing that brief!

We've had 180 corners in the league this season, so based on that stat (2.9%) we would have 5 goals from corners if we achieved the average.
We have scored 1.

Exactly the point I was making. I just used 'executed' because the OP used it.

Our record must be 0% though.

I wouldn’t even mind not scoring if we ever looked like causing any kind of danger from them. Even looking like we knew what we were doing would be enough for me.

Wish I’d read that before posting above. In short, we’re just nowhere near good enough at them and it’s a major area for improvement.

I’d be having an extra hour in every training session on them until we looked half competent.

I’m exactly the same.

My kids Sunday team whip in inswingers every week consistently. Never hit the first man, never over hit, so I just cannot work out how professional footballers cannot deliver good corners. Inexcusable.

Let’s hope Edwards relieves our pain.

Wouldn’t you think that they’d have one or two players, both left and right, pulled to one side each training session and told to practice corner kicks. It really isn’t rocket science.

The corner kicks are better than we are at throw-ins. That's nothing new, I can't ever remember Burnley being any good with those; I often worry that the thrower will get booked for time wasting while the rest play their 'how to stay in range but inaccessible' game.

Think people are underestimating the part played by the people in the middle. O'Shea was good at attacking corners and no surprise we scored from a corner in the game he played. CJ and Esteve are rubbish at it, as are Flemming/Foster. The only player who's looked half decent at attacking set piece balls is Humphreys, but his finishing hasn't been good enough. Edwards has put in better balls, so hopefully that may help even if it leads to 1 or 2 scrappy goals.

Having one of our shorter players stood at the near post, until just before our corner is taken, who then leaves his position, to retreat to the far post area. He should then be replaced by a near post run by someone able to flick on a ball from the near post, into the mixer. A job maybe for CJ or Steeve as they seem ineffective where they do position themselves.

There must be an instruction to hit that flat near post ball that never comes off, otherwise we wouldn't be doing it so much.

The baffling bit is continuing to do it and trying to defy all recent evidence that it's actually going to work.

That's where Roberts comes into play. He has a reasonably long throw, so even from the edge of the opponents' box he effective at throwing it back to half way for the centre halves to recycle it to Trafford.

it's certainly not a good return .... my point was it's not a Burnley issue as it seems there are a good few teams producing little from corners...

and the team with the most conversions are dead bottom

I hear they are introducing giving a corner next season if the keeper holds onto the ball for more than 8 seconds.
So we need to practice them!
Throw ins too, we do not seem to be able to create space for a simple throw in without taking ages.
