After writing the match report, I needed something positive to think about, so good to see Mellon, Dodgson and Costelloe all scoring.

The only one of these that I have seen playing was Costelloe early in our last promotion season.
What’s the feeling about whether any of these may actually be able to step up and represent us in the first team?

If we base it on yesterday's performance the bar is set low. Mellon had an assist in midweek too and Bradford are looking at automatic promotion but there are people on here better equipped than me to have an opinion having seen at least Dodgson and Mellon turn out for U18's and U21's in previous seasons. Mellon seems to know where the net is, though as does Joe Westley who has seen his side, Swindon climb away from relegation trouble. They won at league leaders Walsall yesterday.

Westley has only started one game for Swindon and was an unused substitute yesterday.
Dodgson is the one, reading reports, who is having an impact.

Having seen Dodgson at Stevenage a couple of weeks ago I'd say he would be a good addition to the squad - certainly a challenge to Pires as replacement for Humphreys. He's got all the game savvy of a seasoned pro, slows things down, wastes a bit of time when they are ahead (got a yellow for it) and all in all had a more than decent game.
The others I haven't seen in the flesh.

Didn't Westley score on his debut for Swindon? As I've said my knowledge on all three is very scant.

He came on as a sub in his fits and third appearances and got his start between those two

Watched Costelloe at Exeter yesterday. Enjoyed watching and supporting him. Unfortunately at this moment he lacks the physicality needed to compete in the Championship. He is far too lightweight and spent a lot of the time on the floor appealing for free kicks. He scored a goal but at the moment in his career I think lower league one is his current level. I wish him all the best.

Personally believe that if Dodgson had been fortunate enough to get his chance through injury this season like Egan Riley to prove himself in the first team , he would have established himself in the same way.

Thanks for all the above information.
Interesting post northeastclaret comparing Dodgson to CJER. Let’s keep our fingers crossed he gets anywhere near that level.

Always good to read positive news about loaners and the other younger players. Very few will make it to the first team group but hopefully they can build a successful career with other clubs.

I saw Costelloe play for Accrington against Bromley before Christmas in one of the worst games I've ever seen and he did absolutely nothing.

I like your optimism but Egan Riley is Ex Man City youth (Captain I think) and played in the England set up, he's clearly at a much higher level, I just felt his development hit a stumbling block for a few years and he finally took his chance this year.
I hope I'm wrong but I don't think Dodgson will be a top end Championship player. Its nice to see Jimmy Dunne looks to be set for a good career though, when he moved on as I thought he'd end up in league 1.

QPR turned down a bid from Sheffield United for Jimmy Dunne in January. The problem we had with him was comparing him with our two other central defenders at the time, James Tarkowski and Ben Mee.
As for Owen Dodgson, I doubt northeastclaret will have seen him play.

Michael Melon scored again for Bradford City last night as they consolidated 2nd place in League 2.
He’s a very good linkman but not an out and out striker as he lacks the predatory instincts and isn’t a natural goal scorer.
He has very good attributes but sadly anticipation isn’t one of them or else he’d be playing at a much higher level

Asked my Cobblers supporting friend about Dara's performance last night and he said he runs himself into the ground and was his man of the match.

Owen Dodgson assisted another goal yesterday. Both Mellon and Costelloe started but didn't score.

Not a loanee but Josh Benson scored his first EFL goal for Barnsley in a defeat at Mansfield.

Adewumi got an assist for Dundee in the Dundee derby today, helping them to a 4-2 win.
