Does anyone have any idea what the actual attendance was?
When you watch the match there were plenty of empty seats in the Cricket field stand and spaces in other parts of the ground.

It felt a lot more.
Mate of mine was working on the turnstiles. He said people were just climbing over one after another.

But that doesn't stack up when you see how many empty seats there were in the Cricket field stand.

Yeah but the Longside held 8000 and the Beehole about 6500 so even taking into account the Orient half being mostly empty, the rest was rammed so would be about 10000 standing. Bob Lord full, 4000. Cricket Field half full 2000.
16000 give or take be about right.

Would love to attend this but Iβm currently unable to make plans more than a couple of hours into the future, due to family illness and caring responsibilities its highly unlikely I will get chance. I have my own vivid memories of the time and I would to reminisce, but those who lived through those days need me in the present as well as sharing that past.

I'm not sure I want to re-live it, to be perfectly honest.
I'll leave it where it is.

You need to bare in mind that there were no seats in the Longside & Bee Hole, standing meant you could accommodate far more supporters. What now looks like a full attendance would have looked half empty back then.

Can we clamber over some chairs, or slip the Librarian a couple of quid and get in anyway .. it would be rather appropriate !
I suspect there there were well over 17,000 there on that day !

It was rammed where I was, on the Longside. Much more capacity with terraces than seating.
When I arrived, I thought it would be a few more than usual. I looked towards town, having parked my car and there was a sea of people coming towards Turf Moor.
A fantastic sight.

Seen that clip many a time but just want to add what a great programme Saint and Greavsie was and how sad that many of the featured Clarets are no longer with us - Ralph Coates, Leighton James and the great man who steered us through that day, Brian Miller.

I have that on an old VHS tape somewhere with other TV clips of around that timeβ¦ if Burnley were being featured on a football show Iβd sit in front of the video with my fingers on the buttons (pre-remote controls). As it was fairly rare back then.
Years since ai saw it, but in my minds eye I was expecting Jimmy to be sat in a Claret and blue scarf and cap at the end, which must have been another occasion.

Thatβs strange I always thought the official figure about 17-odd. Although it always looked a lot more because the Turf held about 30-odd at that time with the Longside and Beehole still terracing. A lot at the time thought the club were underplaying the attendance for tax reasons. Many, including me, thought it was about 20 plus. Who knows now, itβs all the stuff of myth and legend. All I know is that it was the most amazing but scary atmosphere Iβve ever experienced at any game.

Nice sincere comment from Jimmy Greaves at the end.
I've seen accounts from Orient and Torquay fans about that day but never from a Lincoln fan.
