James Trafford interviewed on CNNi i missed the beginning of the interview but they must have been talking about his records this season he also said he hopes to be one of the England managers picks for next years World Cup which as a Burnley player we hope he does It’s good to see him and the club the recognition they deserve for this season’s records because we don’t hear much about it on sports programmes in this country.

What an incredible turnaround.

This time last year some people on this board were saying we’d lose our money on Trafford and now he’s too big for us

If he does go it’ll be for a huge fee, hopefully brought about by a bidding war.

Yeah looks likely.
Can anyone remember the terms we agreed with City when we bought him? I know there was a buy back clause, but was there also a sell on fee as well?

A loan to league one was the best option for him this season, wasn't it?

Huge credit to him, he is still a very young lad and he seemingly didn't let last season define him. I still think City will be back in for him in the summer but good luck to him wherever he ends up.

He has improved no doubt about that but it's difficult to know how significant that is though because he isn't facing real quality players week in & week out. He wouldn't have as many clean sheets a level up.

He was a young inexperienced keeper and we played "faff around at the back" football long after it was crystal clear it wasn't working.

It could have utterly ruined some players. He's done well to regain his confidence this season.

He's done a lot better this year as you would expect when dropping down.

He is still too young to go in goal for a relegation threatened club in the Premier league for me.

The first thing the club needs is to do is sign a very good goalkeeper that can keep you in games every week.
Might be a bit easier with most clubs scouting distribution first.

First of all, he's a Burnley player.
A very young and relatively inexperienced player.
New to the club and the players who were playing with him.
Playing behind a poor bunch of defenders, who were also new to the Premier League.
His treatment from the manager and fans was generally poor.
He should have been allowed to settle in before taking up first team duties.
Don't forget he didn't join the other players at the beginning of pre season as he'd been playing international football.

Anyway, he's a mentally strong individual and hopefully the experience will help to toughen him up, however it was no doubt very difficult at the time.

He is doing great.

I know it feels good to do a bit of shaming of fans who criticised him last season but as pointed out above, the biggest culprit was Kompany. Muric deserved to start then get booted out if he failed, and fan frustration that this didn’t happen was taken out on Trafford. It was understandable. After all, he was poor, very poor, but it was too much too soon, he is a good lad, a very good keeper and one with huge potential.

I think people need to forget this "Kompany threw him under a bus" sort of rhetoric.
Kompany gave him his big opportunity, his platform if you like.
He didn't do too badly for a young man, and anyone who wants to see it can see the progress he's been making with BFC.

VK should have taken the lad out of the firing line before some of the crowd started to turn against him and the way the crowd started to shout for Muric was disgusting ,and Kompany’s stubbornness could have completely shattered Trafford .and I can’t understand you saying that people should forget the ‘threw under the bus ‘ rhetoric as it is blatantly true .

I agree if it wasn't for kompany Trafford wouldn't be here in the first place I think some people conviently forget that bit. I don't think replacing him with muric any earlier would have made any difference if you look at ipswich now they'll probably be relegated the same trajectory we ultimately headed.

the net result is that as fans, we know next to nothing about professional football.
The stick he took was off the scale, hope he gets the career he deserves, wherever that may be
I doubt many of his numerous critics could have withstood the levels of abuse and came through with flying colours.

Depends on where he goes,£30m is not a fortune for some of these mega clubs who might see Traff as a future prospect. The other problem is that if he was to stay for another season,he is going to be really up against it if we get promoted.Even if we had the world's number one keeper,he would find life difficult in the prem at Burnley

I don’t want this to come across as a criticism of Trafford.
I think a lot of credit needs to go to the whole defence. I don’t watch many games. But reading the player ratings thread. I’m constantly reading…Trafford… x,y or z… He had very little to do.

So credit to the whole defence for our run of not conceding.

Yes he got a bit of stick & some fans called out murics name (big shock horror) usually on the back of some howlers & do you know what he's responded well to it. Them same fans you could logically conclude helped to give him the kick up the backside he desperately needed. I don't live a sheltered existence so to me it isn't shameful it's part & parcel of being a footballer if people aren't happy with your performances & conduct they'll sure let you know about it & that's what happened here.

Trafford was poor last year mainly down to his strength/ age. He got bullied constantly last season and who’s to say it doesn’t happen again next season when he is sold who if we go up and he stops. Trafford is still very young and as we know championship football is nothing like premier league football.

I don’t see the James Trafford’s career has been impacted at all by his problems last season; in fact probably the reverse. Will he be desperate to leave? Not according to various reports of what a laid back sound guy are to be believed. Would he go if there was a firm offer from a big club? Of course he would just as any other player would. Will that offer arrive? I think the like of Newcastle etc. Will give it another season of watching his development should we be promoted and JT will benefit from being first choice and gaining from the experience to add to his career’s forward trajectory. In summary, if we go up I think there is every chance he stays.

Just as Muric looked a world beater in the Championship, Trafford has looked the same, the main difference being the solid defensive partnership in front of him.

Equally, in the PL, Trafford looked highly suspect with an ever changing defence in front of him (whilst also opening against 7/8 of the top teams in the country) and things only calmed down later in the season with Esteve and O'shea cementing the regular partnership. When Muric finally got his place back (in the main) the central defense remained largely unchanged. Even so, Muric was more than capable of throwing one in his own net, which he both did and continued to do in the PL for Ipswich.

Did Kompany have a crystal ball and see the clangers Muric would bring? Maybe. It surely influenced him enough to seek out a new GK in the summer but It's fairly safe to say Trafford wasnt ready for that baptism of fire and Kompany probably acted too late to salvage JT's morale for last season.

Onto this season, JT has undoubtedly developed and looks more in charge of his area if, of course, not the finished article. Do I think we'll see him develop further with us next season regardless of where we are? Sadly, no. I'll be glad I had the opportunity to see him develop, nevertheless.

I’ve seen a podcast or something or other this week and Carragher is asking is it better to have a good defence and a bad keeper,or a good keeper and a bad defence ,think the replies were a good defence ,and I’m not criticising JT for one minute but if VK had stopped at Burnley would we be seeing such an improvement and if we go up and get battered most weeks how will JT be viewed if he lets 80 goals in? I still think he’s way to young yet to be a top Premier League keeper.
