Can't fault his self-belief. After his efforts with Southampton this season he is currently on MNF critiquing how Arteta sets Arsenal up.

absolutely no idea why and I can't justify it but I seem to have an irrational dislike of him

He would, no doubt, have been asked to go on MNF by Sky, and paid decent money to do so
What do you expect him to do ?
Just sit there and answer "no comment" to any questions

The kind of guy who, if he's at a loose end, stands in front of a mirror to enjoy the view

Personally I think I'd have the humility to turn the offer down and suggest it maybe wasn't quite the right time. Maybe he's struggling to meet the mortgage payments though, who knows?

So just because he was in charge of Southampton, who were always going to struggle to stay up, he can't analyse football?
I get it, being in charge of a team who gets relegated or are on course for relegation means he's never going to get a job at a big European club but......oh hang on!

A breath of fresh air to see a different face rather than the useless overpaid clowns like Chris Boyd , Hinchcliffe, Clinton Morrison and Jamie Mackie who are paid a fortune with Al their appearances

On pundits.. did anyone see Kasper Schmeicel on that Overlap show? Now he did have some good insight, seems a very smart guy too. Still playing obviously but would be good on telly if he doesn't go into coaching.

Envy is not a pleasant trait. Good luck to Russell Martin. He knows a lot more about coaching elite footballers than anyone on here.

He had an impossible task trying to keep Southampton up especially as he had less time to prepare due to being promoted through the play offs.

Who knows how he would cope if he had Arsenal's squad for a couple of years?

But he got them to play in a suicidal way that's completely unsuited to teams who don't have the quality to play out from the back.

Exactly like us last season.

It's a style of play that will never ever work for teams who don't have the right players, yet he completely ignored all the warnings.

And exactly like VK, is only looking after himself without any thought to where it left Southampton.

It's just a lot of nonsense when prople grumble about this. There is no consistent way you can think Russell Martin can't criticise Mikel Arteta without thinking you yourself can't criticise Russell Martin.

Only caught a small of his chat after the game but I found it interesting. Particularly when he spoke about his time at MK when one of his key metrics of success was developing players to sell for a profit, clearly a similar brief to Kompany’s during his time here.

Sky often have a good guest on Monday Night Football, usually an out of work manager or ex-player. It’s a good feature.

Southampton were pretty much doomed whichever way they went about things due to the quality. I don't think any manager adopting any system or tactics could have made it work the only thing that would have brought about a change in fortunes is to get rid of most of the team & replace with better players.

Bit of a difference in posting on a message board seen by a few hundred people vs a (handsomely) paid gig on primetime TV

It was absolutely brilliant, loved the way he fought them on every preconception and by the way, he had the best English around the table !
