Have you got the end of season player ratings for the last championship season Tony?

Josh Brownhill averaging 6.5 after scoring 13 league goals is pretty laughable - shows how harsh some people mark players!
I recall the same from 2 seasons ago in this division, from the average ratings you'd have guessed we were mid table at best.

Having 2 players who have been rated as good or above this season is weird.

Depends on the rating system though.
Looking at whoscored stats, we don't have many who have played over 10 games over 7/10
Surprisingly Esteve is only 6.98 which is crazy. Having said that I think Esteve and CJ are in the top 5 defenders marked in the league.

Should do a count from those who 1) know what / have a clue what football is 2) aren’t over emotional children after not winning. I’d be interested in seeing the contrast in average scores.

The top six say it all. It's been a very defensive minded season! Esteve and CJ rightly the top two. I'm surprised Roberts isn't nearer to 7, he's such an important cog in the machine - when he plays well, we play well.
It's odd that the only players to produce at the other end are Brownhill, Flemming and Anthony, yet they all rate far lower the defensive unit.
Brownhill has always divided opinion, but I'm firmly in his camp. We're a better team with him in it, especially when he's played further forward. 6.5 for a lad who has 13 goals and 4 assists from midfield is ludicrous.

It's odd how Browny has never been 'loved' by the fans, despite his service and output. Has he ever had a song?
There are some games where, other than popping up with a goal, he is pretty quiet, so maybe that's it.

Here we go
7.30: Jordan Beyer
7.11: Josh Cullen
7.07: Arijanet Muric
6.95: Manuel Benson
6.94: Jack Cork
6.88: Nathan Tella
6.85: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
6,74: Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson, Connor Roberts & Charlie Taylor
6.73: Josh Brownhill
6.68: Ian Maatsen
6.65: Ashley Barnes
6.64: Anass Zaroury
6.52: Jay Rodriguez
6.48: Bailey Peacock-Farrell
6.16: Vitinho

The ratings for Brownhill are far too low in both seasons, but especially in this one when he's scored so many goals. He's an incredibly under-appreciated player at this level, which is odd because in many respects he's precisely the sort of player I'd have always expected Burnley fans to take to - industrious, athletic, decent technically, plays with common sense and a good finisher.
I'd say that all the midfield area appear under-rated there - all of Laurent, Hannibal and Anthony in particular. Defenders will always tend to score more highly I think because a team tends to be more consistent defensively.
Always some anomalies - for Maatsen to only average 6.7 two years ago is really surprising and whilst Humphreys has been OK this season, he's not been better than Maatsen was two years ago, and nor has he been so dramatically better than Lucas Pires, who is another clearly under-rated in these scores.

As ever this feature is a really good barometer as to who has done well, as an average from hundreds of posters it doesn’t let us down.
But there are commonalities across seasons - forwards being lower down, fullbacks struggling to get to the top (even Maatsen).
I’d suggest there is a difference between players who regularly do well (and thus are high in this feature) and players who win vital games for us but are anonymous in others. A team needs both types. So Flemming, Brownhill, Anthony etc are as important as Esteve and CJER.

The scoring on this board is so daft at times. Most of the time in fact. Some people decided they didn't like Anthony very early, and it shows despite his performances and contributions. Maatsen's score for our promotion season is laughable. Strange too how people were bemoaning Zarourys lack of game time in the Premier league, and yet in the so called "terrible division" below he managed 6.64.

He had a spell early on where he was our best player im the number 10 role when we were getting a lot of draws.

Defenders and Defensive midfielders dominated the top of the table under Kompany too. Maybe Burnley fans just love defenders, rather than these flaky, fancy dan forwards.

Pires would be about 6.33 if you could discount all the drama queens giving him 3’s every match because he’s not “Charlie Taylor”

You might want to take a look at why we are riding high, what the team's strengths are.

I get all that. My original post started with: It's funny that.. simply because it is an unusual occurrence. Nothing more or less. Usually top teams are winning through goals scored at one end and less going in at the other.

When you concede as few goals as we do, we're bound to be doing well in the table.
Thankfully they haven't all been 0-0.

That’s what is happening though? We’re just scoring 1 or 2 and conceding 0 or 1. Usually 0.

That's unusual and why all our top rankings are the defenders - which is probably unique. That's my only point!

I'd prefer us to sign players with football intelligence and ability rather than hope some daft clubs come along and give us money for poor players.

But would that poll be any more accurate? Your way there would only be about five or six people's votes getting counted/averaged, so an insufficient number to be considered valid
