A big court case is quietly taking place in the background as authors and publishers try to get their copyrights respected by AI. Meta are one of the ones named in travelling all on line sources and stealing intellectual copyright. It came to light when an author found a third book in her series she hadn’t written. A basic plot had been entered and her word patterns and terminology copied.

The modern world version of ‘home taping is killing music’. It is very serious for many authors who already struggle in an extremely competitive market. The annual average wage for authors is just 7k pa (though obviously this is over a wide spectrum of writers).

I've done a lot of work with the Society of Authors over the years, they're organising a protest at Facebook's offices at King's Cross tomorrow around this.

I think it's already happening with music. We'll soon be getting newly discovered tracks that were forgotten or 'lost in the archives ' appearing from nowhere. I suspect the Beatles track released in 2023 was an AI creation.

The Beatles track was a well known analogue tape recording made by John Lennon. Fans had bootleg copies for decades.

It pre dates AI tech by decades.

AI was used to recreate Lennon’s voice, which had only been captured weakly on his home made tape, but only to match with what existed on the recording.

Sticking a useless AI element into everything seems to be many companies thing to do at the moment.

I’m sure it has its uses but the bits of it I’ve seen have been rubbish. The big 4 advisers are shoe-horning it into projects I’ve worked on that at best save 5 minutes of work and at worst get it completely wrong and makes everything take longer.

There's an old proverb 'a bad workman blames his tools' 😁

Whereas AI has already learnt to blame someone else.

I use WhatsApp to notify players of selection for walking football teams. I wonder when Meta AI will start doing this for me: selecting players who are injured, away on holiday or otherwise not the best pick.

Anyone know how to get rid of it?

Not sure. Try asking Chat GPT.

Would it surprise you if I said I'd already tried that? ChatGPT responded "Can you introduce me to META AI? Can you let me sit in on your smart phone communications, also?"

So there is a reason it was never released.

Deleting the app is the only way.

Based on that selection it looks like it’ll be a while before the first AI Manager wins the league.

Well it was from 2 generations ago and not followed up, even then.

This was more the possibility of recreating something with all 4 performing on it. They have always said - not the 4 = not the Beatles.
