Burnley’s Darko Churlinov helped his loan club lift some silverware last night.

The 24-year-old started as Jagiellonia Białystok beat Wisla Krakow to lift the Polish Super Cup with a 1-0 victory.

Churlinov played a major part in Jagiellonia’s winning goal, seeing his shot parried to Miki Villar, who found the back of the net in the 14th minute.

A signing I was excited about but didn't work out

Our squad is so big i'd completely forgotten about Churlinov. Big clear out needed this summer whatever league we're in.

I didn't realize he was still Burnley property.

The signing I was most excited about in the Kompany summer. Still feel there’s a good player in there.

At 24, and with the exodus we’ll have in summer if we don’t go up, could be more important than we realise.

The fact we could not move him on in two seasons tells me everything. File under Bastian and Delcroix, Three dreadful signings

Bastien wasn’t a dreadful signing. He cost £750k or whatever, sold him for similar or not much loss, and he played a role in filling out the squad. We basically had to rebuild a squad from scratch that summer, at low cost because we had very few saleable assets, so we needed cheap reinforcements to pad it out…and he fit the bill. We didn’t need him, as it turned out, and then went up where he was definitely not going to make an impact, but he served a role at a point in time.

Delcroix also filled the LCB cover role well and was pretty cheap. He had a few good games for us, particularly again Spurs where he was excellent, and then got injured. Now getting decent reports from Swansea. If Esteve leaves and we don’t sign Humphreys for £12m, we may find he becomes an important player for us at some point.

Hopefully. But I’d have expected a £12m outlay to be promotion-linked.

A guy i work with supports Jagiellonia Białystok. He reckons Churlinov was a bit hit and miss to start with but has been exceptional since and probably the best player in that league this season.

Bastian - cheap cover in an area where we had some of the best players in the division in Cullen, Brownhill and Cork.

Delcroix - cheap cover, now playing in the Championship.

Churlinov - cheap, potential, suffered a serious illness during his time at Burnley.

I don't know. "Dreadful signings" seems harsh.

Dreadful is very harsh, people always wanting us to take cheap punts on players from abroad. For every Benson and Zaroury you get a Churlinov or Bastien, low risk as far as I’m concerned and they still played a useful part of the squad to some degree.

Churlinov was our most expensive signing that summer and we can't get rid of him, dreadful seems pretty fair.

What was he €3.5m? Doesn’t seem too bad when compared to the likes of Tresor, Gibson and others from the past we’ve signed, if he’s dreadful what would you call them?

Is he gonna cut it in the PL?
Anyone know how he's done whilst away?

Saw Jagiellonia Białystok play Cracovia about 5 years ago. It was one of those weird games where the league had been split into groups, and neither team were going to trouble the top spots, so it was really turgid football played by two teams firmly on the beach

Did he really get a chance? He was seriously ill and needed a good run to get himself fit. Only 7 appearances so how he can be judged on that I have no idea. Maybe, now he is fit, he will be the player we thought we had bought. Some people don't give players a chance.

Well it hasn't taken much more if at all, for the likes of Tresor, Ramsay, Delcroix, Sambo, Agyei, etc. to be written off already so you shouldn't be too surprised.

He’s been fit for two seasons now and not done much at all on his loans to suggest he’s anywhere near the level required. If he’d banged in 20 goals in Poland and Germany then fair enough. Think we can just be pleased we’ve not had to pay his entire wages at this point.

Yep, that summer we spent around £10m on Benson, Zaroury and Churlinov so whilst Churlinov has been a flop Id say the strategy was good and we got good value for our £10m.

Its a bit like the Tresor situation where people will moan about £15m wasted rather than looking at the bigger picture that we spent about £30m on Odobert, Tresor and Koleosho which again seems good value and again shows the risk based approach to signing young promising players from abroad can work

Its easy in retrospect to say we shouldnt have signed Chrulinov or Tresor but at the time we were taking a calculated gamble on all of them and noone could be sure who would be the Zaroury and Odobert and who would be the Churlinov and Tresor

Darko could well have played himself into a permanent move for all we know. I don’t think he will be looked at over the summer by Parker, more likely he stays around where he is getting regular game time.

Given we're already committed to the four incoming players on obligations-to-buy and how hard it might be to shift some of the other returning loanees out, I think Parker would be daft to not at least kick the tyres on Churlinov to see where he's at after a season where by all accounts he's played well.

I agree but I suspect that both parties may have other things in mind. I’d like Parker to cast his eye over all of

Churlinov
Amdouni
Massengo
Ekdal
Adewumi

Before sending them back out on loan or permanently .

Obafemi
Delcroix
Hountondji
Costelloe
Dodgson

Can all go for me - possibly forgot some others

Massengo seems to have done OK at Auxerre.
Hountondji has had plenty of game time with Liege, but I don't think he's scored a goal.

There’s only Amdouni, who we know can play at this level, and Adewumi, who’s an unknown quantity but had a great season, who should have the eye cast over them. The rest we (and Parker) already know aren’t good enough and need shipping out.

Standard in polish top division is poor. My polish mate reckons it’s equivalent to league one here. He’ll be gone. Don’t envisage he’s somebody who they would want to keep around this tight knit squad.
