What on earth do you do with the stuff ?
Even 5p's are a pain in the rear.
My parents suggest that I put them in a box and then exchange them at a Bank.
My nearest bank is over 3 miles away and it would probably cost more getting there and back without factoring the time spent travelling, queuing up etc.
Not every shop or business has a charity box on the counter and you feel that putting 1p in there is a bit sad.
Donate them to someone living on the street and you are more likely to get them chucked back at you.
Therefore, I have resorted to throwing them from my top window at the Grey Squirrels who occupy the tree across the road. This is an attempt at redressing the imbalance between the native red variety and these imposters.
However, Squirrels have excellent peripheral vision and can avoid anything coming in their direction.
After constantly missing them I went to retrieve the coins and they just took the p*ss.

Is there no machine in any of the local supermarkets? Round here there are a few. You pour the coins in they take a commission and issue a voucher for the store.

I think the US is planning to get rid of the cent (penny) as it costs more to produce than it is worth.

When you use AI to generate an image, you accelerate the heat-death of humanity on our earth. Much to reflect on for OP.

Banks won’t take them, or they might only accept a few grudgingly.
When we went decimal in 1971 the lowest denomination coin was the halfpenny.
According to the Bank of England’s inflation calculator, the equivalent value of a halfpenny today would be 6.205 pence.

Kath's sweetshop on Barkerhouse Rd and Sid's on Ringstone Cres used to sell 3x black jacks or fruit salads for a penny once upon a time.
Just saying.

You can donate your loose change to me if you like. I'll make sure they go to a good home - like my local Tesco's Coinstar machine.

I thought coppers had been removed from circulation? though I guess in places where cash is still used it’s needed for change etc so clearly not . Always remember black jacks at 4 for a penny and a bag of chips costing 7/8p

If you need to offload a load of shrapnel just use a self service till in the supermarket. Don’t have to worry about counting it out just whack it in and you’re good to go. Obviously on small purchases and not a weekly shop

In Canada the one cent copper piece, or penny as it was referred to, was discontinued about a decade ago. For a cash transaction if a widget cost let's say $10.33, the cost is rounded up to $10.35. Conversely if it cost $10.32, it's rounded down to $10.30.

Could you melt them down and make a very attractive copper kettle?
I'd attach an image but I know not how.

In a word, no.
Since the 90s they've been made from copper-plated steel.
You could make a steel kettle though.
