Craig Bellamy is on MNF on Sky. Just been talking about Burnley in the prem, will be discussing it more later in the programme.

It was blatantly obvious we changed our style as the season went on and the media just continued with the same narrative regardless. By the end of the season we started to look a much better unit until relegation was confirmed. It's a shame we couldn't knick a few more points along the way because safety wasn't that much beyond us.

I supposed we'd have lost Kompany anyway so we wouldn't have got to see how it had developed.

Interesting line saying he enquired about Liam Delap in June but was told he was being sold for big money. Maybe he was very close to getting the job full time.

Remarkable that even Claret fans parrot the line that Kompany failed to adapt his tactics, though maybe he was too late in doing so.

When did the tactics change?

They'd changed pretty early on. Even around the West Ham/Palace games at home I felt our style had adapted.

That’s strange because Bellamy stated on numerous occasions that tactics wouldn’t change .

It's never one reason, but we had a poor summer of recruitment that was way out of balance. Bellamy even said there the physicality and intensity is a different level, and we bought a lot of light weight, young wingers and attacking midfielders. We also lost maatsen and Tella, who were massively influential in our promotion season. And no replacement for Barnes, who was also key. It was a shame neither Trafford was ready, nor Muric good enough. And poor Traff was massively exposed early in the season before we started to adapt.

Tactics were perhaps naive at times, but if you don't get the right squad together you're going to struggle. And we did.

I don't need to and I've already seen it. I watched us with my own eyes. Our tactics evolved throughout the season.

The point is Bellamy said they wouldn’t

It looked beyond us all season to me and in the end it was eight points which would have been twelve but for Forest having points deducted.

Nice Bellamy is at least trying to drive the point home that the Premier League is almost a different sport to the Championship and that the gap is gigantic

We were in the bottom 3 from the 4th minute of the first game, and never remotely looked like staying up.

I'm not saying we did. Just that the team that finished the season wasn't far off it. If we hadnt given away points when we shouldn't have in games such as West ham and villa away (where we were robbed by the ref) then we could and probably should have gone into the final day with a fighting chance.

And add to that the 2 points lost at Forest due to an incompetent ref and again at home to Luton, we then stay up
