Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has described the abuse his players received from travelling fans after Saturday's surprise 1-0 defeat at Oxford United as "a joke".
The promotion-chasing Blades would have set a club record of seven successive away victories had they won and would have gone back to the top of the Championship if they had avoided defeat.
"I think it's an absolute disgrace to the players that represent the football club and what they have done this season," Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield.
The top 2 losing their heads, we must not join them if we end up in a similar situation over the next 6 games.
We've built up a huge head of steam of late and really looking like we are hitting form at the right time.
Each game is now a cup final

I don't mind the blades, or their fans, but despite the 'issues' about atmosphere on the turf etc, I don't think we would be booing the side if we got beat away. The away support from us all season has been great.

He’s lost it. Won’t stop banging on about the 2 point deduction and reckons they have 85 points. Does he not realise they defaulted on payments to other clubs which could have affected the players that those clubs bought or were aiming to buy. He also showed a complete lack of class after beating Wednesday recently. Legend in his own mind that one.

I can't understand why he has to keep letting everyone know they have lost two points. We all know! Why keep mentioning it when it isn't included in their total now. I wonder if he believes they actually have two points more

. If either us or Leeds, or both, end up above them, we will need to be 3 points ahead then he can't moan.

Still a way to go but Wilder and Farke showing signs of struggling with the pressure. Not a good look to turn on your fans. Doesn’t seem to be much love for him on the Sheff U forum despite being one of their own.

It is weird though that fans of the top clubs like Sheff Utd, Burnley and Leeds get on the players back when you consider the season we are all having.
Is it just a sign of the times because I'm sure it didn't used to be like this.

Parker could have said the same about some of our fans, but he's cool, collected and not getting rattled by the pressure.
Just what we need

They wouldn’t have gone back to the top if they had merely avoided defeated, as stated in the article.
If they’d drawn, we’d still have been top on goal difference.

Trying to prove to himself as well as everyone else that they've done enough to get promoted. Some end of season nerves creeping in I suspect. Out of him, Farke and Parker I know who I'd prefer in charge for the next 6 games.

Didn't we look at Wilder before appointing Kompany? Both huff their own farts like, but I'm glad we didn't get Wilder.

I posted a month ago that in the run in, the managers would have a greater influence than the players on the final results, and Wilder's temperament and inability to motivate and manage players might be their downfall.

That's the downside of having a fan of the club as the manager, he's too emotional.

It amazes me how he can't see what effect his comments will have if they don't win against Millwall.
They are bound to get some more negativity, this time from the home fans.
What does he do then?
Call out all of the home fans too in order to be "consistent" his word not mine.
He's put himself in a hole, and burnt his bridges at the same time, some feat.
This could be his Kevin Keegan moment if he messes it up.
Massive pressure on him and the team if they go 0-1 down and Millwall will know it.

Agree with this. Quite amazing comments and ones that only serve to pile pressure on the team and him tonight.
To be fair, they’ve been very good in their reactions to defeats this season so maybe he’s comfortable that he’ll get another one tonight, but if not his comments will come back to bite him.
Very glad we have a calm and collected Parker at the helm at this nervy time.

I feel like this is more "Wilder the Sheffield Utd fan" rather than "Wilder the Sheffield Utd manager" making the comment.
I think he understands its perfectly acceptable for fans to be annoyed at losing in a tight promotion race, but don't expect them to be running up to players, telling them to "F**k off, get out of our club" / harassing the daylights out of them on social media because of it. I think him as a fan is coming out there that's not acceptable, lets all get behind the team and we will deliver. Abusing the daylights out of us is not helping the cause. And I agree with him to that extent, every club has their own set of numpties. It's very much a comment I would expect managers of a certain era to say, ala Stan, Souness, Keegan etc
I think all players respond to cheers better than boos nowadays, whether they deserve it or not.

Wouldn't happen, he's not that stupid to alienate himself from the fans.

The most recent comparison as a Burnley fan would be Stan.
I remember him publicly outing players but I don't ever recall him ever slating the fans?
Could be wrong but I don't remember if he did.

Don't know the extent of the abuse but do their players deserve this after the season they've put in?

I think that's what Wilder is trying to say in a very emotive way.
Either way, the net of this and Leeds crumble is great for us.
They say the problem with being in front is that you are always looking over your shoulder, physiologically that's what they are going through. We keep our heads down and concentrate in own performances and let the other two deal with the cracks.

Wilder is an absolute weapon. His rant about a lowly linesman having the temerity to continue eating a sandwich while he, a Premier League Manager, had barged into the official's changing room to rant at them was very revealing.

He did slate the fans on occasions. Probably the worst was in the cup defeat at Scunthorpe in 2001 when he came down the touchline gesturing. If Stan felt something needed saying then Stan said it.

Sheff Utd missed an absolute sitter early on in the second half but Millwall kept breaking and had quite a few decent chances. They should have had a pen as well.
