Suggests that it isn't just an injury that's the problem. We wouldn't cut loose a player prior to the end of his contract just because he's injured I don't think.

We aren’t. It basically says that we won’t be offering him a new deal.

Why do people read something, and then interpret it as, something completely different?

I think its good we know-thank him for his service and we move on. A great player at his peak, and it was certainly worth a punt by the club.
In the event of promotion, and knowing Parker's like for experience, would like to see us at least exploit the option of Callum Wilson, who becomes a free agent in Summer at Newcastle

I suppose he might just score a couple of goals in the five he'll be fit for and that might just be enough to keep us up.

Not sure we can afford massive wages for a player who is so injury prone.

Scored more PL goals than Chris Wood and would be free. I like Foster but surely Wilson would play more games than he has this season -he does know where the net, and goal scorers are like gold dust (and expensive).

Couldn’t stand Wilson, but that’s mainly because he scored against us all the time!
Wilson will end up at a bottom end prem club, not relegation candidates.

Might not be Callum Wilson, but I think we might benefit from an experienced goalscorer from somewhere. Someone who's natural instincts can help us, with turning chances into goals.

Slim pickings on the current OOC prem players.
I know there’s a lot of criticism on here for going back to old players, but Mee on a 12 month deal would be a decent backup and great experience for some of the younger players.
Assuming Redmond and Barnes will be gone in the summer, it doesn’t leave many ‘old heads’ around.

I seem to remember this post from January:
From a Turkish fan discussion on X (today) :
“Football had left Shelvey. He had spent the summer on vacation. Coach Arda played him for 5 minutes but couldn't stand it. He can't take more than 3 steps with the ball. His private life is far from that of the average athlete. We got rid of him in the quarter season. I don't want him to be a trouble to anyone in Turkey”

It should. But it always annoyed me because ‘all I care about it is Egan-Riley’ was a better fit anyway!

My initial prediction was he'd have the same impact for us as Gazza did, although I suspect in 20 years time we won't still be dissecting Shelvey's performances for us.

Don't know why it was never "All I care about is Burnley FC"
As that would have the song make some semi-kind of sense, as the gist would be it being no one player is bigger than the club.

Some decent OOC signings on there, would hate to see there demands though

I'm not convinced he actually got injured. That Preston performance was probably enough for anyone to see he ain't gonna cut it.
Unless he got injured walking on to the pitch

Horrific signing like every one knew it would be.
We need to stay clear of old injury prone players. Sign young or in prime players. Quality not quantity.

We will always need to take the odd risk though.
Steven Defour was known to be injury prone, yet it worked out very well for us, and we would never get a player of his quality in a million years had he remained injury free all his career.

When Shelvey signed he potentially offered something different and we were in a period when creativity was lacking. His passing or set pieces could have made a difference. His stock on here grew after he played a long ball that went out for a throw in to the opposition. Apparently that fantastic pass was a statement to the manager. The signing has not worked out and now with the benefit of hindsight the signing is called out as being horrific and everyone knew at the time.

Read back through the threads on here before he signed. The majority didn't want to sign him.

No need thanks, forming my own opinion isn’t difficult for me.
When you say majority on here, you know that is roughly one percent of the Burnley fan base.

As a coach in some capacity, maybe. I love Barnes, but if we’re using him on the pitch next year then we’re in serious trouble.
He’s two years older than the last time we thought he couldn’t cut it in the Prem.

I think signing Shelvey was less of a risk, closer to a total FFFF up. Total waste of money, we should have got better... or nothing.

If that falls through then New Trafford to Old Trafford.

He's looked really poor since coming back from this latest injury. He keeps getting wheeled on as he's after a milestone goal, but has never looked like scoring it, even against poor defences like Leicester and man u.
I can see him being given a penalty, getting the goal and then riding off into the sunset.
Osula ought to be on before him.

I don't know what really happened to Shelvey,he's was a complete waste of time.Barnes in no way should be retained as a player,be could barely cope in the championship let alone the Prem.A coach possibly, not a player though.

Seems we did a good deal whereby he had to stay fit to remain employed.
We should give the club more credit sometimes.
