In a season where you could pick from about 5 or 6 players (Esteve, CJE-R, Brownhill, Cullen etc) he is my player of the season. Today and Sunderland at home were seismic moments. What a superb goalkeeper.

I had that conversation with my mate earlier, I hope City do come back in for that huge buy back clause. We could do a lot with that money but he would need replacing, can't go into next season with the other lad as number 1

I presume City have first refusal on Trafford should we entertain offers for him, but other than preventing us from selling him to another club there wouldn't be any point in them signing him just to loan him out. I'm also not sure it would be in their interests to buy him at all considering FFP regulations, unless of course he is ready to step straight into their team.

I’m assuming a buy back clause means if city choose to activate it he has to go regardless or not if Trafford wants to go to Newcastle or stay here. Same goes for Ramsey and Villa?

He’s more than ready.

Best thing him CJ & Steve can do is get a season in the prem under their belts in a unit they are all comfortable in.

Yes. Which is why the buy back figure is enormous.

But players don't always make sensible decisions. And they would want assurances of their roles in the team.

The reality is that whenever a player is linked with a move away from Burnley, Burnley fans claim it's in the players' best interests to have another season at Burnley. If I was Esteve or Trafford and offered a big money move to a top 4-5 PL club I'd be wanting a move. If we go up however we should. be doing everything in our power to hold onto our best players though as we can't afford (both literally and metaphorically) to enter the summer transfer window with a weaker squad than that which finishes the season.

Why is it in their best interests?

They stay on 20k a week, get injured and miss their move.

They stay on 20k a week have an awful season ala Kompany and no one comes in for them and their confidence is shot.

They both move for 50k plus a week and play 10-20 games, develop in a world class environment with better players.

Trafford moves and becomes the #1 and pushes for the #1 shirt for his country. His ‘plan’ has always been this. Newcastle are pushing and it’s useful for him to force City to move Ederson on (he wants to go).

I don’t think Esteve is a top six player (yet). He needs a stepping stone club like Everton.

As a Burnley fan for 30+ years to have Pope follow up Heaton, I thought we were incredibly lucky.

But Trafford is a decent step up from those two imo.

He is going to be world class.

Yeah I don't begrudge it at all.

He's a great modern shot-stopper made for a team that dominates possession and will need a goalkeeper to pull out a couple of reactionary saves a game to win them the points.

Still think he struggles with the looping high ball (though has gotten better), and if he's with us next season, will be put under a lot more pressure at defending these sort of balls.

That takes nothing away from his performances this season - he's been sensational and if he is to move on, then fair play.

My point was if City don't think he's ready yet, then there would be no point buying him back unless we are about to sell to another club.

Trafford is good, but if I could swap him for prime Pope or Heaton I would do it in a heartbeat. Two are proven in the prem. one isn’t. He’s good but he’s not proven at the elite level. And there’s every chance he won’t be good enough

Probably Champs save of the season. That was in all the way.

I think he’s more than ready for a season in the Prem. Whether it be for us or someone else, good luck to him. Took A LOT of stick last season for such a young lad and could have asked for a move, never stopped believing in himself though and stayed on. Been fantastic this season, has grown match by match as can be seen by the last minute take of the cross last week and also the excellent saves today.

Been fantastic this season. As with all our players the test should we go up if they can continue at the level above.

Seems to have grown into a man this season.

Not sure if it’s a change in technique or that he’s physically stronger, but he’s kicking the ball miles further off the ground which relieves pressure when needed.

Great save when needed today. Concentration level all season has been fantastic.

Appreciate its not the PL, but in the past 4 or 5 months I have never felt safer than having Trafford in goal, and that includes two greats -Heaton & Pope who I held very highly. Trafford is still 21 ??. He has a great future, and I seriously did not think he would be this brilliant at the start of the season

Lots of frequent and prominent members of this board threw JT under the bus last season in the defence of Kompany.

Kompany threw his entire defence under the bus with his arrogance and idiotic attitude to his tactics.

He almost destroyed the confidence of JT (and that’s hard to do!) with his poor man management.

JT has long been in the ‘system’ as the next England #1 keeper. He will rise to that roll.

Man City seem to have sold him as an FFP loop. We obliged, and I think he will return there in the not too distant future making us a handsome profit.

JT is the best English keeper and won’t be here next season regardless.

It's the first live shot that shows it most clearly. It looked like the ball deflected in real time. Slow motion shots from other angles are more blurry asnd the deflection is hard to see.

It's a save that was worth 2 goals, almost. From 0-2 to 1-1 in half a minute.

Great shot stopper, that's never been in doubt. He's a good keeper but I think the praise is somewhat overblown. He's still not confident on crosses although he has improved. Likewise his distribution has improved but is still not great. We have the best defense in the league and he hasn't had much to do for much of the season. I will reserve judgement until I see him play when we are consistently under more pressure in games. I am happy we have him but claims he's England number one are too early for me. Still has a lot of improvement required to be a real top level keeper. He can get there but he's not there yet.

Hard to say I think. Trafford was awful in the Prem last year but was inexperienced and also exposed by a poor defence and set up. He has been tremendous this season but a level down and with a much better defence and set up. I think he has got better at coming for high balls and isn’t allowing himself to get bullied now. His shot stopping this year and last have been top drawer. We only saw Pope play in the Prem and he was outstanding as a shot stopper and on any high balls but has always been a bit suspect with his feet which is why he’s never really nailed down an England spot. Heaton was terrific for us in both the Championship and Prem, rarely made a mistake and was a proper leader and captain but, like Pope, wasn’t great with his feet. Trafford has the edge on both Heaton and Pope when it comes to enabling a team to play out from the back, which gives him the potential to be better than both if he can now take the step up to the Prem. But he does need to demonstrate that in the Prem before we can decide whether he is better than Pope or Heaton.

Defo a touch. Only a fingertip, but enough to deflect the ball the tiny amount needed to make the ball bounce outwards from the bar as opposed to down and in.

I really don't think so.
Over the course of appearances, the great memorable saves Pope and Heaton have made imo, far outweigh the last two seasons of Trafford.
Don't get me wrong Trafford is now an amazing keeper and probably the England no. 1. This will be determined by his performances in the Premier League where he will be severely tested by world class players.
