• Hamer man for man

I know we're the home team, but I'd seriously consider doing an old fashioned man for man job on him, possibly Laurent.

He literally makes them tick, he's their version of Man United's Bruno, everything goes through him.

But, he's's also got a highly petulant side and if we do mark him out of the game he's likely to do something stupid out of frustration. I genuinely think if we keep him out of the game we'll be in the Premier League come Monday night..

Personally I wouldn't think changing how we have approached things for the last 30 unbeaten games would be advisable just for one game. We outplayed them at their place. Let's do what we do and let them worry about us!!

If we had one man on him i genuinely don’t think it would negatively affect the way we play. It would just remove much of their threat.

Hamer is a very good player who could easily find the quality to win the game for them. Let's not be cocky or disrespectful.

However, we don't need to man for man mark him, as our defensive shape out of possession is the best in the league.

I would play Laurent instead of Hannibal, at least for an hour, but not man to man. Let Hamer get at least a yellow as he's a walking card. Sheff U. would be doing exactly the same to Hannibal, so let's not give them the chance, plus I think we might need the extra physicality Laurent brings and allows Brownhill to play further forward.

Lots of chat suggesting O'Hare will replace Brewster to make their press more effective. I agree it would do. So I'd tell CJER to hit those balls to Anthony constantly. And for Trafford to go long a few times early in the game rather than pass it around. Negates their press and naturally would make them have to sit more, which is not what they will want to be doing given they need to win

Hamer has had a great season - he’d walk into our team.

Not sure we should man mark him though - that kind of tactic is rarely seen or needed these days. Just do the good old fashioned thing of making sure he does not get too much time and space especially in the final third of the pitch. Does not matter who picks him up as long as somebody does. Wilder will understandably have them massively fired up but often this ends up with red cards for his teams and Hamer is definitely one of those walking a tightrope during games. We just need to make sure we don’t get involved in this and play to our strengths too.

Completely agree.

I often find that the better way to nullify a player is to stop the ball finding him as well so that’s where I’d be focusing.

I’d also try to stop free kicks around the box as we did pretty well vs Bristol.

Bit insulting some of this really. He’s a quality player, exactly what we don’t have, we would walk into our first 11.

May well be fit but not going to be at 100% so agree we need to go in hard & stick someone on him. Galet Hannibal to follow him around he might loose it & Hannibal’s energy will outlast his fitness.

Hamer has only had 4 red cards in over 350 games
And about 70 yellows
So chances are he won't even get booked, never mind a red card

9 goals and 6 assists this season suggests we'd be better off focusing on stopping him dictate their play, and not giving dangerous free kicks away, rather than trying to wind him up

And he would walk into our team. He's a superb footballer

As long as all our players do their job and carry out Parker’s instructions to the letter we’ll be fine and won’t need to do a man for man on Hammer, who incidentally is a very good player.

I'd be amazed if we go man for man on Hamer.

I think we can all assume there will be at least one change with Laurent coming in alongside Cullen and Brownhill pushing forwards. I think the interesting final choice is probably on the right wing, which is the direct match up with Harrison Burrows. Burrows and Hamer typically play on the left for Sheffield United, with Hamer allowed to come narrow into pockets because Burrows bombs on and also helps stretch the game so Hamer can find space. We can expect Burrows to do that every chance on Monday and we saw yesterday that tracking those runs isn't Edwards' strength (although I do think he's been more influential in the past few games then he's getting credit for, and works harder than some perceive).

There's therefore a decision to be made about whether to leave Edwards in the team to try and exploit the space Burrows leaves, or whether to ask Brownhill to exploit that space and play one of Hannibal, Sarmiento or Koleosho on the right to track Burrows and therefore try and neutralise not only Burrows but also to some extent Hamer. It wouldn't be a massive surprise if Hannibal played there.

Good post. I was thinking the same thing about Burrows and the help that Roberts is going to need down our right hand side. It will be interesting to see how SP handles this.

For all the Hamer love in, Anthony has the same goal contributions as Hamer. I don't see many crediting him in the same way. Have no doubts, Sheff United will be worried about Jaidon and Edwards. Let's focus on letting them worry about our attacking threats, and just defend as a unit like we always do.

Edit: Anthony has 14 goal contributions to Hamers 15. Before I get that inevitably pointed out

Edwards is a dangerous player, no doubt, and has been key to our recent goal threat, even when playing poorly. But he is defensively poor. And very, very small

Yes, he looked good on Friday in front of his home fans against a very poor Cardiff team. However he's looked average in many other games this season.
I'd just be wary of him taking free kicks in goalscoring positions

To be honest, they have more to worry about than we do.
That away performance against them showed how good we are.
We have been consistent and calm up to and since then. Nothing will change.

Obviously my original post, but I'll stick by my opinion. He was responsible for an assist and played a wonderful ball that the ex b*****d messed up.

If the Blades don't go up, I'd love us to try and bring him to our club, a quality player, technically very good, has a tenacious side and an excellent engine. I think Parker could make him even better..
