The text:

Jordan: Scott Parker is lucky to get the Burnley job

Jordan believes that given the end of Parker's time at Bournemouth, where he was sacked after claiming that his squad were "under equipped" to compete in the Premier League, and his subsequent struggles at Club Brugge, he is fortunate to be given an opportunity by Burnley.

"He got himself fired, he signed his own resignation letter and quite rightly, whether some of the things he said had validity or not, he was fired," Jordan said on talkSPORT.

"You don't go up against the guy that you work for, do it in the public domain and do it persistently and consistently and think you're going to be rewarded by the person that employs you.

"So out he went to get a 16% win record at Brugge, which will do him a lot of good, and now he's back in at Burnley, an opportunity that no-one seemed to want to take.

"Whether that's because Alan Pace talks in riddles or whether it's because they didn't fancy the job, but it's a decent job.

"They've got parachute payments, they've got the legacy of some decent performances 18 months ago inside that side and players coming back into it.

"Burnley will be a threat, but I think Scott Parker's very lucky to get the job."

They were really complimentary about us this morning saying we had more about us to stay in the league than leeds

He did get himself fired at Bournemouth. He did fairly poorly at Brugge. We did have parachute payments and some good players. We were a threat. Not sure he was very fortunate to get the job, his previous promotions would have got him on most Championship shortlists I guess.

So mostly correct, perhaps a bit harsh right at the end.

Straight back up, haven’t seen a penny of parachute payments again.

Scott Parker was proved completely correct in saying that the Bournemouth squad was “under equipped” which is why the owner ended up spending £52.9m in the January 2023 window to ensure the club did not get dragged into a relegation fight.

He was sacked for telling the truth in an interview. Naive but honest.

He experienced a financial sh*itshow in August but kept quiet.

Jordan thinks because he was Chairman of the mighty Crystal Palace that he's the fount of all football knowledge.

"In 2012, Jordan said he "blew" his £75 million fortune, with £40 million lost on his Crystal Palace venture." (Source: Wiki).

You must have deep pockets if you don't equate almost £50m of Parachute Payments this season to a penny

Some would argue the fact that he did blow a fortune makes it even more reason to listen to him. Some football fans from all different alliegances like him & listen & agree with him not all but that applies to everybody in the media with football knowledge. You'll never get everybody liking & agreeing with him granted but the numbers that clearly do is suggestive that it's not all hot air & degrees of truth are spoken.

I agree with Jordan. Parker was rightly sacked from both jobs and as an out of work manager was lucky to get the Burnley job, but that shouldn’t detract from the fact that he has learned from his mistakes, grabbed this opportunity with both hands, conducted himself impeccably in the process and ultimately delivered an excellent outcome.

I thought Parker was lucky to be offered the Burnley job because he got two fancied sides promoted out of this division previously.

I was wrong - there was no luck involved. He’s obviously a very good manager and has done a simply tremendous job with us.

I agree. The thing is nobody's discredited parkers achievements pointing out that he was lucky in the first place is just an opinion & probably a popular 1 at that. Some people not liking Jordan in the first place have decided to jump on that & are trying to find something that isn't there.

I think he made the wrong decision to go to Bruges. It was apparently a wreck in progress and he almost certainly regrets it.

Remember Parker saying when he joined us, he had had time to reflect on himself. I think we are seeing the benefit of it

Simon Jordan if anything is bringing reality to life. Parkers made mistakes previously & we threw him a lifeline at a time when his managerial stock wasn't the highest & he's repaid the faith in that decision. If bigger clubs do ever come calling which they will if the PL campaign goes well it's a mindful reminder of loyalty.

We forget when we make comments like Scott being lucky to get the Burnley job, that he actually had a long interview process. He will have made presentations and long explanations about how it can be done. Clearly, so far, he was right, so he wasn’t lucky at all, he did a good interview.

p.s. I expect one of those answers was “this is how I can get Burnley to survive in the PL” :D

We have got year one, but will not receive year two - The year two payment will be be paid to all 20 of next seasons Premier League teams - which means we will get 5% of it (just over £2m) - the EFL have been arguing for a few years now that it is them that should get the unawarded Parachute payments to those clubs that bounce back up -The Premier League clubs have always said no. It is something that the EFL will push with the new regulator.

I think it would make the 'trampoline clubs' more competitive if they kept the full Parachute monies (year 2 and Year 3 where applicable) and give them an incentive to think more long term in their investments and building Premier League quality squads. this comes from the perspective of increasing the quality of the Premier League product, which would just re-affirm why Parachutes were first introduced. Looking at it from an EFL perspective it would understandably lead to further anguish

At the time I think some people distanced themselves away from the job without being 100% based on newspaper reports. I'm not sure which other candidates he got in front of. It all worked out well & Simon Jordan hasn't said anything disrespectful. Regarding luck I think we did better than ok.

From memory, Jordan was one of those people trying to lever Lampard into the manager's gig.

To be blunt, if Simon Jordan told me it was raining, I'd open a window to check.
