It’s probably going to be the decider this year, but I believe goal difference is the correct way.

We were all for it when we it looked like it would give us an advantage over Sheffield United

GD is fair even though we will probably lose out this time around . Normally this points total would be plenty but 2 very good teams this year.

Not according to all the media outlets. They all report that rules were changed in 2022. Level on points, straight playoff with GD deciding home advantage. Head to head to be used to decide placings from third downwards.

The other week, I vaguely read on BBC Sport the possibility of a play-off for the Serie A title & on noticing the head-to-head results, I just assumed they were still a potential decider.

I would prefer the team that wins the most games over GD (which would be Leeds anyway).

table never lies, the Burnley and Leeds lads have done the main job and whoever finishes top deserves it.

It pains me to say it but fair play to Leeds. They have been unstoppable at times this year some would say they are relentless.

If you finish on 100 points and don’t win the title then whoever has finished above you deserves it.

At this stage I am just glad we’ll finish more than 1 point above Sheffield so they can’t bleat on about their 2 points deduction

It was only 2 points, but they could claim it still put them at a psychological disadvantage.

I think GD is fair. It also allows you to (potentially) catch up which the head-to-head record wouldn’t. Imagine we were just a goal or two behind Leeds on GD and could potentially be champions with a 3-0 win!

IMO that would be quite a weak argument especially considering they were above us with only about 7 games to go.

Goal average would see us well clear!

It wouldn't be beyond this team, considering everything else they've done this season, to go and beat Millwall 25-0 or whatever it is we need.

I preferred Goal Average, but I think the change to goal difference was made to encourage attacking football.

The problem I’ve had with it is as pointed out in my OP. GD is fixable. A wealthy club only has to tap a referee or a couple of oppo players and there can be a big swing.
In a head to head situation you are cheating yourselves and as when we won at Bellend Rd in September nobody knows what the table in April will look like.

No complaints. There should be far more with all the time wasting that goes on. I’m a stop clock sort of guy and take it from the referee, he has enough to do.

(And then the referring decisions, or lack their of, for their free kick at home was just twisting the knife)

Not as much as Sheff Utd will hate the play offs. Having to play teams with 15 to 22 points less to gain promotion is ridiculous IMO

I don’t get this argument. Let’s scrap the play offs and just 2 teams win promotion then. The play offs are one of the best things about the EFL for a number of reasons.
