I wonder if either team might claim they were robbed by a referee's decision tonight, if so they might have a case as his name is Clement Turpin.

In fairness Inter are normally good defensively but defending against the likes of Yamal when on form is borderline impossible.

Barca on the other hand look decidedly ropey at the back!

August 26th 1972 we beat Aston Villa 4-1, on the way to the title. Every goal was different and all classic in there own way. I thought I’d never see better from one team.
This match has had 6 unforgettable goals. Wow! but only three each so far.

Football as it should be! End to end, creative players given freedom to create and take risks, an absolute pleasure to watch!

What a strike from Raphinha; nearly broke the cross bar and a shame it goes down as an OG.

It’ll be a different match next time. Two great managers will have learnt so much from that game and will improve what’s necessary.
I hope it’s as good.

End to end football is great as long as it doesn't lead to more goals on a regular basis.

I'd hate football becoming a bit like basketball and whilst 3-3 draws are fine as a one-off goal celebrations wouldn't mean as much with more goals.

I’d say no… but it’s factually correct.

Takes so much from the game…

Why is this different to the ball only being a millimeter over the line?

The ball remains a standard size, so does the line. You would rather disallow a goal because a player might wear a size bigger boot?

Also why is the line going through the defenders hand, and not the tips of his fingers?

I agree with this to be honest, it might be a small margin but why does that make it wrong.

It's not measuring it against his hand its against his knee, the furthest part of his body forward that can be offside. You can't play the ball with your hand so it can't be offside.

Yes, it is what people wanted given the time that was spent analysing and complaining about incorrectly given or disallowed goals for offside before VAR was introduced.

No, I'd rather disallow a goal because it didn't go over the line

I'm very happy for the laws of the game to applied correctly and fairly

Would it have been fair on Barcelona to allow it?

What I can never get with this argument is that even if you gave the attacker half a yard extra (which as an ex defender I don’t agree with anyway!) they would still need to draw a line somewhere so they would be in the same position of it being a millimetre within half a yard or not.

So you all you can do is scrap var altogether and go back to just using the linesman’s naked eye where you do on occasions get glaring mistakes which it was brought in to eradicate.

I suppose you could bring in a cricket style system where a team gets so many challenges which might work as it was always surprising to me how many offside decisions linesmen got right.

I take your point, although if all games were like that last night, then sign me up! Regardless of the score line, it was just a pleasure to watch two teams aggressively trying to score with every attack as opposed to pointlessly keeping the ball for the sake of it Pep style!

Barca allowed/demanded their creative players to be creative especially when in and around the opposition penalty area. It was a joy to watch the likes of Raphinha and Yamal constantly trying to pierce the defence with through balls, crosses, shots on goal and taking players on instead of pointless back tracking to recycle the ball every time.

Inter on the other hand seemed to play a much more counter attacking game but the same as Barca, they wanted to score with every attack.

If last night had somehow finished 0-0 I would have still been thoroughly entertained and left wondering how nobody had scored!
