Worsley Cup First Round
Lowerhouse stormed into the second round of the Worsley Cup with an emphatic victory over East Lancs on Saturday.
East Lancs won the toss and chose to bat, but were quickly on the back foot as the House bowling attack tore through their lineup. Professional Dan Salpietro was the pick of the bowlers, returning stunning figures of 6 for 25 from 9.1 overs. Backed by a razor-sharp fielding display, Ben Heap claimed four superb slip catches — equalling the club record for most catches in a Worsley Cup match.
East Lancs were eventually bowled out for 138 in 44.1 overs.
In reply, Lowerhouse wasted no time. Chasing at a remarkable rate of ten runs per over, the job was done with 36 overs to spare. Ben Heap and Jonny Whitehead both notched up commanding half centuries, with Jonny falling just before the final run was scored.
In a special moment, Ben Heap became Lowerhouse’s all-time leading Worsley Cup run scorer, surpassing club legend — and his uncle — Chris Bleazard. He also climbs to third in the competition’s all-time rankings, overtaking former East Lancs and Lancashire man David Pearson.
A massive achievement for Ben and a huge performance from the team!
Middleton are 116/6 off 36 chasing Burnleys 192.

Rawtenstall left to concentrate on the league after a home defeat to Accrington.

Re: Worsley Cup First Round
Clitheroe brought in the current Nottinghamshire Captain, as a sub-pro for their Worsley Cup 1st Round game at Acre Bottom against Ramsbottom, I suspect for a decent fee. Haseeb Hamid captains the current County Championship Division 1 leaders, and is averaging 110 + this season ...
However, Cricket is a " cruel mistress ", as we all know and Clitheroe's " paid man " was adjudged to have edged his first delivery behind, and was dismissed for a first ball duck .. He then bowled 7 - 0 - 31 - 0 ... Ramsbottom ended up winning a close game by 19 runs ..
" Shadenfraude ", The German word for " Taking pleasure in other people's misfortune ", is not a word I use often, but on this occasion ...

Could Ben become the all time run scorer in this competition? Considering they'll likely get to the final again?

He has played quite a few games in the last few years for Lancs league clubs.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 10:15 pmClitheroe brought in the current Nottinghamshire Captain, as a sub-pro for their Worsley Cup 1st Round game at Acre Bottom against Ramsbottom, I suspect for a decent fee. Re: Worsley Cup First Round
I was perhaps being rather uncharitable yesterday, he's played twice for Rishton and five times for Littleborough in the League, scoring a Century and three 50's at an average of over 73 ... he also took a " 5 for " in one of the Rishton games ! A fine player, no doubt ...Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 11:24 pmHe has played quite a few games in the last few years for Lancs league clubs.
At the other end of the scale, it's been a few years since I pointed out that one of our fellow posters, " Beehole Claret ", whose Lancashire League career spanned 1978-1980, was never dismissed by an amateur bowler, it took a professional to eke him out. Whilst this statement is true, the ever modest " Beehole ", would want me to add that his career amounted to 3 Innings, 2 not out, 3 not out and caught behind for 0, off the bowling of Burnley "pro " Greg Hayes who took 8-40 ... Statistics can prove almost anything, as they say !

Spectators want to watch the best professionals and players want to play with and against them.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 12:49 pmI was perhaps being rather uncharitable yesterday, he's played twice for Rishton and five times for Littleborough in the League, scoring a Century and three 50's at an average of over 73 ... he also took a " 5 for " in one of the Rishton games ! It's great that clubs can attract them and afford their wages.
