If you read that and the names were missing, you would know it was Ashley Barnes.
The underwhelming signing eleven and a half years ago who became a huge player for us.

We should never of let him go the first time. Let’s not make the same mistake next season. I have said many times on here, 1-0 up or 0-1 down and 20 mins to go- you need a sub like Sir Ashley of Barnes.

Keep him on the bench at least next season.
There's always something he can do when the time comes calling.

I don't know if he makes our 25 man squad next season- it probably depends how many under 21s we have - but you'd want him around the squad for another season regardless. Even if he's playing for the U23s primarily as a development player.

Thought he was excellent against Millwall. To me he didn't tire, felt Scotty was just giving Lyle some minutes, that he'd probably promised him before the game started, or at half-time.
Being a Barnes fan, I probably find it difficult to view this dispassionately.
I would not be disappointed to learn that our Ashley is still on the books in August.

I’ve never seen another player with the ability to win cheap free kicks like Ash.
Worth its weight in gold when you’re hanging into a slender lead.

A masterstroke to bring him back just before the Rovers game and he has clearly had a big influence in galvanizing the squad over the last four months. His contributions during his limited minutes on the pitch have been everything we would expect, and I thought he did very well on his only league start yesterday and played a typical part with his double challenge resulting in the rapid equalizer. Whether with us or elsewhere, and in whatever capacity, I wish nothing but the best for Ash in his future career.

Good example of those cheap free kicks won right before the second goal on Saturday - Egan Riley picked out Anthony from the free kick before Millwall had reset, but the initial play from Barnes to draw the foul was the difference between him and Flemming as a centre forward right now.

Ash has always given 100% and that is really all that fans require from any player. I wish him all the best whatever happens in the future.

I thought he played very, very well yesterday.
He still has something to offer.

Kompanys biggest mistake was letting Barnes go imo, hopefully Parker sees the positive impact of having Barnes around and doesn’t make the same mistake.

Be nice if the club could find him a role as a attacking forward coach. Parker is going to need all the help he can get. His experience will be invaluable

Just sat down to watch the game again, Barnes and that first goal- wow, 3 times body on the line.

Tbf there’s been plenty of times when Flemming has been fouled but not awarded the free kick this season

100%.
Barnes will have been instrumental in the run in, and we’ll need him next season more than ever when the going gets tough. No brainer to keep him.

I got the Alex Ferguson vibes, hated someone being to powerful at the club and respected above him

Which is a lack of skill compared to Barnes (not knocking Flemming).
Ash is a Premier League player who has mastered the art of the cheap free kick. It is a skill, ensuring they are given.

We have to keep Barnes around next season. He says he wants to coach at Burnley, so give him a player/ coach role or something next season. He'll be the best forward coach we ever hire.
Legend.

It usually does. If you click on the replay for the Millwall game it reads: "Clarets Player subscribers can now watch the full 90 minutes of the controversial Championship game v Millwall here."
I wondered why they considered it controversial, and neither was there a link of any kind to view it. I also thought it was now Clarets + and not Xlrets Player. Then I noticed the date on it as 30/09/2012. That was the 2-2 draw against them when Pawson had a nightmare.

Better footballer than people give him credit for. Brilliant with his back to goal. Would love to see him get another year as he can still offer something when called upon. His impact on the squad is clearly massive. Fingers crossed.

Very strange - all the other games are available for me but not Saturday’s on the website while I can’t get anything at all on the app.

I always focussed on his pre match routine, and if he was a sub, his half time warm up. This chap never seemed to tire of whacking it from outside the box past our keeper. He could strike a ball viciously & accurately. And hardly ever missed. He scored some crackers at times.
