Difficult job for a lawyer defending their not guilty pleas when they’d both filmed it and taken pictures of bits of the tree in their car!

So one’s been in jail since December, his barrister says for his own protection, the others been on bail. They’ve both been found guilty, why is their sentence hearing not until 15 July, reports into their mental health etc could be obtained quickly. The tax payer yet again sees money wasted, Incidentally, the Judge has set aside a full day for their sentence, ridiculous, we don’t want to hear it all read out again chapter and verse just give the sentence and free up some Court time.

Reading reports of the case they both come across as utter morons , not least for the pathetic attempts to plead not guilty.

Nothing more than a bit of notoriety I suspect… it’ll look really funny on social media….
Won’t be as funny as them two picking the soap up for the next few years. Two hats the pair of em.

How about leaving them in prison until the replanted tree is again 50 ft high. That would be justice.

Hopefully there is a proper root and branch enquiry from the government to stop this happening again.

To be fair to tarks_ears, it's probably the 1,000,000th tree we've cut down in that area over the years. Don't get me wrong, they're a couple of absolute brain donors, the sort of delinquents that always live among us. A couple of years is fine, if that's what they get.

They deserve the maximum ten years, not for necessarily felling the tree, but for continuing to plead not guilty to the offence.
Morons.

A prominent building firm near to me habitually fell mature trees with TPO's on them if they are placed inconveniently...some beautiful oaks recently..and a massive 300 year old beech last year...they then happily pay the standard fine which is small enough to be just a trifling inconvenience....it's just a shoulder shrug to the system.

The fact that they committed this crime with absolutley 0 motif other than to revel in the upset that their actions would cause is deplorable to be honest.
Hope the two screbs get everything they deserve.

Meanwhile, according to Home Office data thousands of crimes like shoplifting, knife crime, violence and sex offences are going completely unpunished in the UK every year! It’s amazing what can happen once the media get their hands on a story which then goes viral.
Now, before the keyboard warriors on here start pelting me, I do hope these two morons are dealt with accordingly!

Not about morals, it's about perspective and equality.
The sycamore gap is valued at 622K and the Enfield oak at 1M by CAVAT ( a poxy quango that uses trees to inflate the assets side of local council balance to allow more borrowing)
Two idiots cut down the first tree as a joke. The second one was cut down because a pub owner wanted a better view.
First case, up to 10 years in prison but likely 2 years suspended. Second slight bollocking from head office, no national outcry.
Go figure.

Absolute moronic thing to do as I love everything to do with nature etc, but somebody explain to me how a paedophile ex newsreader doesn't get a custodial sentence, an MP who repeatedly punches a constituent doesn't get custody, yet somebody who chops down a tree is expected too?

If that were a sugnificant criteria for custodial sentencing then there's plenty of Bee Hole End's regular contributer's who'd be advised to keep a low profile from hereon in.

Crazy, isn’t it. People get two years for encouraging racially aggravated violence, but two morons cut down a tree and might get away with less.

Surely a serious amount of community service, perhaps forestry work, would be more use all round than the cost of looking after 2 wastes of space in prison.

I get all the hype about this tree and it being an icon around the world. However what happens to builders etc. that fell a tree in prime bird nesting season, or one with a TPO? These nut jobs deserve to be hit hard, but so do many building companies, like the Keld here in Barrowford who have a licence to fell trees, but not at this time of year. If these two do get the ten years, I will scratch my head as there are rapists who get less.
Our legal system is weird and wrong.

I think the country’s problems are a bit bigger for just my eyes to deal with!
Please bear in mind that the aforementioned crime data is absolutely clear on this issue and comes from the Home Office!!! It’s not ‘fake news’, it’s genuine data and information being reported by just about every single media outlet in the country! You can literally Google search said problem and you will be inundated with endless articles saying exactly the same thing!!

I know that & certain games aren't allowed & Internet connectivity can't be built into the consoles. It doesn't stop the school of thought that they shouldn't have playstations at all. Prison is supposed to be about punishment.
