I've posted a plethora of stuff about Burnley town centre at night but you need to take on that it's not the worst place.

Believe me, it's a lot better than Accy.
Mind you, that's not a particularly high bar....

The town centre has really improved over the last 10 years. It's some of the people that are still an issue.

It could do with a few nice restaurants with outdoor seating to bring in a better night time crowd.

The people are an issue wherever you are ... past few years have had nights in London, Newcastle, Nottingham, Chelmsford, Harrogate, Bradford, Leeds (there are unpleasant folk on the streets everywhere)

Agreed but in most of those places there is more stuff to do in the town centre at night. In Burnley there's not so much, not right in the centre where the picture is taken at least.

I had a discussion with mates from Huddersfield, Accrington, Manchester, Padiham, Poland, Geneva and places in the West Midlands prior to the Sheffield United game and the general consensus was that Burnley was not as bad as people make out.

Especially when you can get a pint of great quality, locally brewed real ale for £2.00 a pint on a matchday in a town centre well run pub. There are others also offering decent beers for about £2.50.

I do miss being able to stand outside an establishment and drink your beer. Not that common here.

It’s actually pretty busy round the corner at the cinema complex and Icaro longe which I think will be a really nice spot of a summer eve

Nando is always busy.

Café culture is alive & kicking 365 days a year in Spain & the area I live is very multicultural so we have a massive choice of bars & restaurants from Spanish to Brazilian to Belgium to UK & Irish with next to no trouble. If there is any it’s usually from tourists who struggle with the measures & does no go on for long as it’s very well policed but also the council is extremely strict with licenses, any repeat offending usually results in loss of license & closure with no exceptions. A new stunning beach club has just been shut 4 weeks after opening due to noise complaints & breaking its licence. Not sure if most tourists understand that in mainland Spain now no live music outside after 12.00 unless it’s a fiesta or special licence.

Maybe they are put off by the sight of a strange old bloke taking loads of photos while wearing a dressing gown?

The town centre, that part and pioneer place are very well done. As others have said, it's the cretins that congregate there. If you did a 180 no doubt there would be that gang of toothless drunkeds who pretend to be homeless outside mcds and old Woolworths dirtying the place up.

... similar with the down and outs with their boxes and mattresses on Bethesda Street down the side of Marks & Spencer. Accrington's M&S shut several years back, Mark's have already announced they are closing their Blackburn store when the lease expires next year, and have just been given planning permission to open an " M&S Food " outlet, on Whitebirk Roundabout, which by a quirk of the boundary, is actually in Hyndburn ....

Like many places we are blighted by anti-social elements of society where it seems that people are only interested in themselves and don't give a toss about anyone else.

Causing issues and aggressive behaviour has now become the norm. Social media has a huge amount to play in this.

I've noticed that many groups of people in pubs no longer to speak to each other. They just shout their misguided opinions so everyone else can hear them or look at them.

The kids don't give a flying f*ck as they know that they are untouchable by the authorities. I despair for the poor souls who have to 'man the doors' at McDonalds of a weekend evening. I've been threatened on numerous occasions by youths whilst returning from a couple of drinks with my dad or going home from a day at the cricket.

Time to set up an Anti Anti-social group and fight back ?

If they come threatening or intimidating me or my family they are getting leathered, don't care if they are a worthless druggy or something young kid thinking they are hard. I'd take the punishment

I've always taken the aggressive response, targeting their 'main man' which tends to put the others on the back foot.

So far, I have not been involved in any recent physical altercations which is fortunate as I'm crap at street fighting, although I did punch a gobby little scrote into the canal a number of years ago after a home game.

Done the same myself. Ask em who the main man is, then say “ me n you , let’s sort this out “. I always say, “ if you hit me, I just hope for your sake that I don’t get up “. They then always back down. Mind you, I am 6’4”, and 17 stone. Never had to throw a punch, or take one, in an episode like this. Just front em up.

I'm certainly not 6 feet 4 or 17 stone.

Height and weight can provide an advantage in such situations.

I have an additional issue that I can only stagger rather than run.

Please remember one of our own fans is awaiting sentencing when referring to punching someone. It may seem like a good idea until it isn't.

My Wife lost her Father to a punch from a drunken mate.

I will try to add some context to my canal post.

I was with my Uncle and Cousin walking along the straight mile after a match when we were confronted by a number of youths.

My Uncle (who has recently passed away) had been teaching motor mechanics at a local college for about a decade and had to give up because all he got were 15/16 year olds which schools / the education system couldn't cope with. Constant verbal abuse was the daily routine and he finished with anxiety and depression issues.

That day, regretfully, things went pear shaped. The group of youths abused my Uncle who sort of lost the plot and went to confront them. My cousin, who would admit that he is no Tyson Fury, stepped in and all I thought was that he was going to get hurt so I punched the main lad into the canal.

Were my actions wrong ? If the lad was drowning I have some qualifications which I could have employed to rescue the situation.

Does picking up a rubber brick from the bottom of a swimming pool in your pyjamas at Gannow Baths count as a qualification ?

At the beginning of the year, I saw a beggar sitting on a mat near the CEX shop on St James Street. He was bellowing at the top of his voice to an elderly woman 'just give us ******* 20p'. I told him to show some respect, or words to that effect. This kind of thing doesn't exactly encourage you to visit the town centre.
