Simple maths question?

Post by Tricky Trevor » Sun May 11, 2025 6:19 pm

What am I missing?
Sky advertising 215 live PL matches next season and 80% of total.
My maths is 20 clubs playing 38 games each and 2 clubs per game.
Therefore 38x10=380. That’s a long way from 80%. In fact I get less than 60%
Put me right.

Maybe it’s 80% of those that can be shown live on tv in UK, so excludes Saturday 3pm kickoffs.

It's 80% of the televised games

Wonder how many 3pm kick off's we had this season. Can't be many.

Supporters always used to say it was one of the benefits of being in the Championship.

Very few ... didn't we actually have matches over the season on all 7 days Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun

What it means is that games shifted to a Sunday because of clubs playing Thursday in Europe will now be televised. So, as an example, under the new deal we’d have had both Man U v West Ham and Spurs v Palace on tv today.

It shouldn’t reduce the number of Sat games at 3.

No Prime either next season.

We did and 34 of our 46 league games this season were televised.

By my calc it should be about 11 matches each on Saturdays at 3pm, assuming an even spread, which it isn’t. So we may get 14, 7 at home and 7 away.

Makes it really difficult to buy a season ticket when living a distance away with other commitments, school on Fri/Mon and poor public transport on Sundays.

Then you have clubs like Brentford and I think Leeds who insist on STH attending a minimum number. All becomes very untenable.

Has that become a thing in the UK? I’ve only heard Americans say math, strange people that like to be different.

It's coming in here too, same as females altering their voice tone to a deep croak towards the end of a sentence

It's called vocal fry. Apparently, the term to describe it has been around since the 60s. Gained in usage over the past decade by reality TV 'stars' and TikTok 'influencers'.
