Who would you prefer to win?
Who do you think will gain promotion?
Will it go to pens?

Sunderland 1-0
Backed up with 0-0 or 1-1.
Not too bothered who comes up but Blades have been in the Premier more recently than Sunderland, so I slightly prefer the Mackems.

have a good friend who supports Sunderland, plus I think there are one or two players in the SU team that may be helpful, and not really in the Sunderland team. Therefore, I hope Sunderland win

Sheffield United to win if there is any justice in the game. Finished 14 points above Sunderland and far superior goal difference.

I said previously that Sheff U will have too much firepower for Sunderland. Sunderland play some nice football but often with no end product. Wilder this season has a touch of Dyche about how he sets up. I remember him saying several seasons ago something on the lines of “we need to learn the Burnley way”. To be fair to them they’ve been up there with us and Leeds all season so it’s their time.

Depends who scores first. Think SU have enough players that can hurt Sunderland, however if Sunderland get an early goal I think they can keep SU out. If SU get an early lead they are great on the counter attack and could get several more as Sunderland have to throw more players forward.

I think Sheffield will have too much for Sunderland.
Probably benefit Sunderland to stay down for another season and re - group.

I wanted Sunderland to win until I remembered our record against both clubs.
5 wins in a row against SU
No win in 3 against Sunderland

Would like Sheff to win due to being local and knowing a few of the players and management living near me. But in truth it will simply be justice. The three of us should all be up, for getting 90+. It won’t define our season regardless. We have to finish above three not one.

1) Sheffield United got 90+ points, finished 3rd, so by rights, deserve promotion ...
2) They have a shocking record at Wembley in play-offs, their fans deserve a result ...
3) When we beat them in 2009, the fans we met on the train back to High Wycombe were a class act, despite their personal disappointment. So for their sakes, I hope they do it ...

Yea kind of agree and don't like to tar everyone with the same brush but I was at the game a couple of seasons ago when they attacked our fans around the coaches
Absolute animals
Never had bother with sheff united fans so sheff u for me

I was chatting to a Sheff Utd fan who has seen them play in 5 play off finals at Wembley and hasn't seen them score a goal (apart from in the penalty shoot out after a 0-0 draw).

I hope Sunderland win with a late controversial penalty just so we can see Wilder spontaneously combust at the final whistle.

Why do the fans of Sunderland deserve a shot at the Premier League? What is so different/ special about them? Are they 'better' fans than those of Sheff Utd or anyone else in the various divisions? I just don't understand references made about fans deserving a victory/ promotion irrespective of the quality of the team they support.

York finished 23 points above Oldham and 28 points above Southend, yet it will be the last named teams playing in the National League Play Off Final in early June.

Just noticed the game kicks off at 15:01. Is this to get round the Saturday 3pm blackout?
It can't be that easy to get round, surely!
Edit - should have Googled first, it's to raise awareness of the British Heart Foundation's Every Minute Matters campaign.

With regards to parachute payments if Sunderland went up and then got relegated would they receive the same parachute payment structure as if the same thing happened with Sheffield United? May have misread but thought someone posted that Sunderland would receive more than SU (and us) therefore making it more competitive/difficult for us (if we came down with them of course).

The Sunderland fans have had sixteen previous shots at it, Sheffield United fans just six so I don’t see that argument at all.

There is a thread on it somewhere. All the three play off games are kicking off a minute late.
The blackout rule prevents any game being televised between 2:45 & 5:15 but there are no league fixtures this Saturday in any of the leagues so it wouldn’t apply.

If a team wants to gain automatic promotion they should finish in the automatic promotion positions. The play-off’s offer a second chance to some teams who aren’t good enough to win automatic promotion. I don’t get this sentiment about justice - that’s the format of the competition.

Got Sheffield United written all over it for me. Also prefer them to go up, better team, better season. Plus we seem to have the edge over them the last couple of years (with an eye on next season).
One minute past.

I've a tenner left that I forgot to use during the Europa League Final.
Any reasonable long shots to take a punt on? I don't know the players for either side well enough to know who gets booked all the time or who is often offside etc.

How long do you want it? I'm on both teams to get a red card at 70/1. Happened when they played each other earlier in the season.

Well, I'm a little over £200 down this season, so 20/1 at least, but I'll happily do two fivers at 50/1+ or something.

Looking forward to this. I have absolutely nothing for against or either club. I would think that Sheffield United would be favourites, but you never know in a one off game of such importance to either club.

That was my thought this morning. The "excitement" being felt by both SU and Sunderland fans today is nothing compared to the "we're already up" feeling I have *insert smug emoji here*
As for the opening post I feel Sheffield will win and, as I have family who support them, I want them to do it too. I don't think pens will be required but, you just never know.
Now then, is it too early for a beer to warm up for watching the game?

hoping for 4-4, 5-5 after extra time and 18-17 on pens. A Sheff Utd win might suit us better as it means one less parachute team in the mix (proper grim having to think that way)

Enjoyable to watch when you're already up. Fully expect Sheff United to win, Sunderland were really poor v Coventry.
But overall, no real preference for who wins.
