Mee has been quoted as saying he still thinks he has a lot to offer on the pitch and his experience and knowledge of the club would make him a perfect signing in my opinion. Hope this is true

Player coach role I could see it, and I’d be all for it as long as he understood his limited role in the side.

Tella though….now you’re talking my language. Does this fella have any track record aside from being a ‘celebrity’ son?

I would be all for it. We need Premier League experience and leadership- not saying necessarily on the pitch- and I think as a person he would be well liked & respected across the squad.

Of course but unlikely to be the case. I'd be looking at him playing a similar role to that of Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young last season. This would be invaluable for a team like us.

Coleman spent the majority of the season injured so therefore a 2 year deal for somebody missing through injury at 35 would be daft.
Ashley Young played 30+ games for Everton, if Mee played 30+ games for us it'd mean Esteve had missed the majority of the season.
If he hadn't played for us we wouldn't mention him.
Club legend but there is no scenario where Ben Mee at 35 is worth a 2 year deal or even any deal for us

Certainly his club legend status is worthy of mentioning along with Esteve and any other young player Mee could mentor on the training ground and in the dressing room. I think it's a big jump to assume that seeing Mee on the field would mean Esteve would be out for most of the season.
You only have to look at the influence Barnes had on the performance of Flemming to be at least open minded to the benefits signing Mee would bring.

So we already have Cork but now fans want Barnes and Mee in ‘player coach’ roles?

Sometimes you’ve just got to make a call on them solely as players.

I don't know him personally but if he's got a proven track record it leads to credibility. Not sure what ben could offer apart from promoting good dressing room vibes & unity there's no getting away from the fact that he's 36 in a few months & not a future signing.

It's a 25 man squad we can't have Barnes, Worrall and Mee all as passengers just to boost morale.

You see. This is where part of me disagrees.

The likelihood is we'll want 5 players who can play at CB. Right now, CJ, Esteve and Humphreys would be your first three names. Worral probably behind. Then you have Beyer and Ekdal to consider.

I guess the question would be, do you think Ben Mee is better suited to premier league football right now than either a returning Beyer or Ekdal. Personally the answer for me would be yes. I think Ben Mee would be better equipped to be that fifth choice centre half for us next season. Id be moving Ekdal on, Beyers an absolute unknown now. It leaves you money to spend elsewhere. The very ideal would be to sign an up and coming 20 year old who dosnt count towards the squad number but failing that this is a good option for us.

Joe Worrall is only 28 and while his experience will be important he is not there to mentor. I'm not sure what the position is with Barnes contract wise but even if he is there next season there is no correlation between him and Mee.
Why would the club pay wages for cheerleaders which is basically what you are describing Mee and Barnes as being if they were in the squad.

I know he's had an injury, and I don't know if there's any truth in this, but there are a lot of people very quick to write off Ben Mee it seems. Whether he comes back or not, he's a legend and it's not that long since he was a first choice Premier League centre back. I suspect he's not past it at all.

Al Dakhil made a few appearances at CH earlier in the season , the most memorable was against Chelsea when scored an own goal and was hooked at HT.

I have no great desire for a Ben Mee return, I have no particular problem if the club wants him. However, I certainly do not see why anyone would be ‘aghast’ at the possibility.
