Just a heads up that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Avro Lancaster is scheduled to make three passes over Accrington this Saturday 7th June at 14:38. Part of the Accrington Food & Drink Festival.

Sadly far too rare an opportunity to see this legend of the sky. It is coming up from Lincoln and is the only one still flying in Britain; one of two (there is another in Canada). Well worth making an effort.

Cheers for this Cliff, my Grandad was a pilot of the Avro Lancaster bombers. Gutted I am away at a gig that has been booked for months. Will share with my mum who I am sure will be thrilled to go and see it. Cheers.

Love this thread about aircraft, I’m an aircraft buff, love anything that flies. I worked in the Aerospace Industry for a number of years with a company supplying Air Traffic Control Radars to military and civilian airports worldwide including many in UK (Heathrow, John Lennon, Robin Hood, Gatwick and others) In 2018 I visited the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario to see one of only two airworthy Lancaster Bombers. A couple months later I had the pleasure of seeing a B-29 Super Fortress Bomber “Fifi” (same aircraft family which dropped ‘The Bomb’ on Hiroshima) in Waterloo, Ontario while it was on a North American tour, one of only three still flying. Few days later I saw both on a fly by at Brantford (Ontario) Community Charity Airshow. Two of the most iconic aircraft flying side by side, such sight for sore eyes.
Brilliant, just brilliant.
BTW, many Lancies were built in Toronto to join the European war theatre.

For those further away on Saturday. Its route:
Starts RAF Coningsby (Lincoln) then...
Boston
Ripon
Accy
Preston
Nantwich.
The flight Radar app will be your friend to track it.
Shame we're in London @mybloodisclaret.

Stopped play at Rawtenstall Cricket Club a few years ago when it flew over as part of the East Lancs railway war weekend.
For those of you not familiar with the ground , it's situated right in the centre of the town only a few hundred metres away from the train station. It did an incredibly low pass then a mighty impressive turn for such a big aircraft right over our ground,.the whole place shook with the sound waves, it was a fantastic sight to behold..

I managed to sweet talk the flight engineer into letting me go inside it a few years ago whilst it was parked up at Bournemouth airport. This was like the golden ticket as civies aren't normally allowed anywhere near it.
It's still in full WW2 specification inside, with a fully working turret and loaded bullet tracks

Brilliant pictures, hard to imagine those heroes doing what they did in closed quarters. I was fortunate enough to get into the fuselage of "Fifi" the B-29 Super Fortress Bomber I mentioned in post #6. The pressurization system had been removed to save weight and fuel.

You can fly in the Canadian one for approx 20 mins, I think it’s about $4000 cad. Sells out very quickly though.

Back in the early 90's we were playing Cricket one Sunday on the High School sports field at Settle and the Lanc flew over, flanked by a Spit and a Hurricane. I think they were headed to Morecambe for an air display.

They give you an hour if you fly it in Canada. $4000 CAD for an hour is very cheap, for a warbird flight. It was £4000 for 20 minutes when it was over here.

It's okay, I just checked in my Weather Top Trumps - a Hurricane beats a Thunderstorm.

Flightradar type in PA474 (LANC) and you should be able to track it, If the cloud base is a lower than 1500ft it wont come over.
Around 10years ago Both PA474 the english Lancaster came over Burnley with the Canadian Lancaster when it was over in the UK.
A great sound of 8 Merlin engines powering over Gannow top.

So is it going to be a Lancaster or Dakota? As I saw a Dakota mentioned on one site.

Whilst not an aircraft enthusiast really I’d make the effort to see this. I drove some distance to see the Vulcan’s last flight and I’m glad I did. I can recommend RAF Duxford for aircraft enthusiasts. Thanks to the OP for posting.

The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is worth a visit if you are interested in this subject. They offer small group tours of a Lancaster with an expert guide. When you are on the plane it is striking, amongst many other things, how little room and protection the crews had. For me it showed how brave these young men must have been.
