Team pic - but do you know the players?

Been sent this pic but it’s left me struggling.

I’ve got the middle four on the back row - Jack Butterfield, Les Shannon, Tommy Cummings & Colin McDonald - and Reg Kirkham on the left of the front row.

Can anyone help with the others?

Could be Bob Henaghan to the right of Colin McDonald and second right front row Les Samuels.

The one in the middle on the front could be Sheridan who became Andy Lochhead's daughter's father-in-law.

I thought that but when CT hadn’t IDed him I thought I must be wrong.
Has to be a charity team, with the mayor in attendance. Can nobody ID him if he is an ex-mayor of Burnley?

This is the original Ex Clarets players, who played their charity matches at Lucas Sports ground at Reedley. Top left is Bill Dodds and Michael Hennigan to the right of McDonald.

Jack Butterfield broke his leg in the late 1940’sand that ended his career. That pic maybe from 1949 or early 1950

In that case this must be from the early 1960’s as it would be after McDonald retired circa around 1959/60?
Maybe that isn’t Winton but pretty sure the others I named are correct

Hi BFC are you sure about that being the original Ex Clarets as Cumming was playing until August 1962 and I thought the exClarets started before 1962

The mayor is J.E. Parkinson and he was in office in 1966 which should help date the picture.

Makes more sense. Looked up Tommy Cummings and he was at Mansfield as player and manager in 1964

That is Jack Butterfield who did break his leg in 1947/48 and never played again. Colin MsDonald was at Burnley from about 1948
The question is when was that picture taken
Are the players BFC or ex- BFC. If the latter it has to be after TC left us in 1963 and having looked him up he was playing for Mansfield 1963-64 as player manager
That then puts that pic in the mid 1960’s unless TC was allowed to play for the ex-Clarets before hanging up his boots
According to Wiki Colin was here but no senior appearances 1948-50
Headington 1950-51 and again here 1951-61

Also BFC comments about the Lucas sports ground has some resonance as Jack Butterfield worked for Lucas for a time but I don’t know how involved Jack was with the ex-Clarets
I left for Uni in September 1962 but unless my memory is wrong, I watched the ex-Clarets before I left for Uni
Be interested in the list of the players and when the pic was taken and the history of the Ex-Clarets

MeeActon1 has named the Mayor and 1966 as his year of office so must be if correct 65-67 period. (No idea when years of office started for Burnley Mayors)

Alderman John E Parkinson was Mayor in 1966 to 1967 and the year runs from May.

So that pic is somewhere from May 66 to May 67-most likely I guess in the summer of 66. I am sure the Ex-Clarets were formed before 1962 but I may be wrong.

Bill Dodd, back far left, came from Bedlington and was prolific in the A team and reserves, scoring two hat-tricks for the latter, including one against t'Rovers ! He never made a 1st team appearance and left in 1958 to play at Workington. He later played for Halifax Town and Rossendale United in non-league. I don't think he ever moved away from Burnley. He was a delightful man, devoted to his wife Irene and his children. He passed away in January 2015, aged 78. Sadly, he didn't live to see his daughter Sara appointed a High Court Judge the year after, which would have made him immensely proud ..

From his obituary in the Burnley Express
“During his two full seasons at Turf Moor he also played a number of reserve team games, notching two hat-tricks in the Central League.

“One of these was in a 5-2 victory against Blackburn Rovers Reserves in February 1958 and, in that game, his team-mates included some star names of the future, Alan Shackleton, Trevor Meredith, Adam Blacklaw and Brian Miller.”

Never heard of him until today but scoring 3 against that lot from Deadwood at whatever level deserves a mention

Wasn't Butterfield the club's commercial manager in the early 70's?... I seem to remember sitting near him on a football special train to Middlesboro circa '72.

I think he was understudy to Alan Brown so didnt get much opportunity in his 3 years before starting as a Scout. Not sure which season he broke his leg. His eldest son Jeff was in my form for a time at BGS and by my standards was quite a good footballer and they lived on an estate near where I was quarried and we were friends for a time along with is two younger bothers Malcolm and Roy.
Jack was also involved with the club I think in the Jackson era as Commercial Manager or it may have been later during our decline. All this brings back memories CT of our fall from grace in the late 70's and 80's. Really was a dreadful time for those of us who had seen the teams of the 50's and 60's. From crowds of 50,000+ (albeit occasionally) to crowds under 2,000. :( :(

60s & 70s before moving to Sunderland in 1976 after a fall out with Bob Lord. He came back in the 1980s too for a short time. Before that he’d done a superb job at Lucas, setting up the big social club in town being down to him.

I was passing the Turf one day and spotted the flag at half mast. I called in to ask who it was for and was told: “Some bloke called Butterfield.”

He was a typically blunt Yorkshireman and he certainly got things done.

mdd2, I correctly put in my post who is next right to McDonald.
My comment re the original ex Clarets was referring to them, as setting it up and raising money for local charities. The mainstays were Jack Butterfield and Reg Kirkham. Jack was the social secretary at Lucas, which in the 60s was a big employer, with a thriving membership. At one time I seem to recall they had a Social Club on Parker Lane.
