"Burnley FC, from England, sent a document to the CBF to notify (and complain) about a debt owed by SAF Botafogo in relation to the purchase of the defender Vitinho, who is already with FIFA. The English team is demanding a total of 7.5 million euros (around 48 million reais at the exchange rate of the day) from Alvinegro.

We had access to the document received by the Brazilian football entity. See below:

"We are writing on behalf of Burnley FC to inform them of a dispute with one of their clubs, SAF Botafogo.

Please find attached, for your information, a Proposal from the FIFA General Secretariat in response to Burnley FC's petition."

The CBF's response, on May 22 and signed by Director Enio Gualberto, was as follows:

"Dear sirs,

Thank you for the information provided. We confirm that Botafogo has been notified of the Proposal by the FIFA General Secretariat.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further clarification."

We contacted Botafogo and, to date, have not received a response. If a response is sent, it will be posted here.

Burnley FC has been following the news about Botafogo in recent days, with player sales (Igor Jesus has already been confirmed at Nottingham Forest, and Jair and Cuiabano should follow the same path). Therefore, Burnley has once again demanded from the Rio de Janeiro team"

Wonder if we do much due diligence on clubs we sell to. In hindsight, it's a big fee from a Brazilian club for any player, nevermind one as average as Vitinho.

They have a billionaire owner. Same guy who co-owns Palace. It’s not Big Steve down the pub.

Wonder what happens in this situation? Transfer embargo? I don’t suppose there’s an instance in which Vitinho (or his registration at least) comes back to us?

Also a risk that Palace won't be able to play in Europe as he's currently breaching the multi-club ownership rules.

But totally unfair on the fans who are looking forward to the adventure. Imagine if we'd had it taken away from us, I would have been gutted but my son, it would have broken his heart!

Even worse for the Palace fans their place would probably go to Brighton!

As far as Vitinho goes, he's the sort of player who needs a run of games to raise his levels. Always looked better the more he played. Felt that he grew into the right wing back role better than others.
Yes, I know that would apply to lots of players, but in Vitinho's case, I felt it took him a while to get going again after time out.

How are they at risk whilst Forest aren't?

The Greek lad doesn't technically own Forest now i believe - think he transferred to a trust.

I think they will ultimately get round it but it would be good news if they didn't. Someone has to have the balls to put a stop to this.

Marinakis has stood down as owner but I think they'd have been OK because Olympiacos and Forest are in two different competitions.

Ownership of Forest has been transferred to a blind trust. In theory Marinakis is still the owner of the assets but has no say on the running of the club ...

Can’t say I’m arsed about them tbh. Multi-club ownership should be banned so someone finally falling foul of it is a good thing.

In that case, can they arrest the a***hole next time he comes on the pitch after a game, and give him a lifelong stadium ban ?

Palace could have done this but the closing date of eligibility for next season was March 1st 2025 - Palace have missed that deadline because back then they did not know/expect/believe they would qualify even in the FA Cup

Of course Palace have two owners involved in separate multi-club operations - they could be out of the Europa League because of Textor, but also do not qualify for the Europa Conference because of Blitzer

I suspect that the ECA will come up with a solution, simply because a number of it's most prominent members will demand it - but this was a problem that FIFA/UEFA opened the door to with their desire to see more cash coming through

Vitinho fee unpaid

Burnley are apparently demanding Botafogo pay €7.5m for the 25-year-old’s transfer.
He left last October for an undisclosed fee.

Nottingham Forest wanting to sign Igor Jesus, Jair and Cuiabano, so Burnley have again asked Botafogo about the unpaid fee, aware they will get a financial windfall.

The multi club ownership thing is absolutely ridiculous and makes a mockery of the sport. How it ever got to be allowed is beyond me.

Botafogo still very much financially active in the market. It’s a bit of a **** take if they still owe us money as reports suggest….
