Out yesterday. Good listen for an hour. Lowdown on Vegas, Barnsey’s arse tattoo, goalie time wasting, and a few more important topics.

These podcasts are all a bit of an underarm delivery.
Suggested he was desperate to go to Newcastle because it was a good fit, but no follow up question about whether he is thankful now he didn’t, being a record breaking promoted keeper a year later. Also no question about what his desires are if big clubs come knocking again. There was a good insight about Muric deposing him - the coach on the show was suggesting that was the right thing to do and it was unfair on Muric not to get the chance, Trafford didn’t really object in hindsight but said he struggled to handle the disappointment at the time. He also implied he was surprised to get the nod over Hladky for game 1. Masterstroke by Parker that one.
My hunch is, he seems a lot more mature now, came across well, and if he gets a chance to be No 1 at a club in Europe he’ll take it, but I doubt he would be a No 2.

He’s far too good to be a number two, be nice if we could keep him though

Trafford mentioned that one of the staff was leaving. I'm assuming that's Lee Martin who was previously the kit manager and then moved into a player liaison role.
He's been at the club for years, must be one of the longest serving members of staff. Initially took over as kit manager from Coyle's brother-in-law so that must be 2010 and he stepped up from another role.
Big Burnley fan too.

Revisionism at its finest. Think 95% of the fans who wanted him dropped, could plainly see that the lads confidence had been shot, and it was potentially damaging to his career to be in the firing line with our crazy way of playing. I agree a few probably overstepped the mark at times, but it was Kompany to blame, as everyone else could see he needed time out of the side.

A few? People were booing when his name was announced and cheering ironically when got hold of the ball. And that's just at the home games.
People on here said horrendous things.
Probably still there if you want to look

Trafford doesn't seem like a player who lacks for confidence. I haven't listened to the interview, but in Crosspool's post he says that Trafford was disappointed to be dropped for (the inferior) Muric, so it's quite possible that him being dropped was more detrimental to his confidence than keeping him in the team. Claiming that keeping him in the team was potentially damaging to his career is ridiculous, and the evidence suggests completely the opposite.
Kompany was not to blame for the idiots in the ground who booed a 20 year old player of their team.

Trafford was kept in the firing line by Kompany despite numerous games where he did not look physically mature enough to deal with balls into the area. Trafford certainly looked a player devoid of confidence at this time. The evidence in his performances that season would certainly back this up.

For what it is worth, I couldn’t agree more. People seem not to be able to see it as symptomatic of standards falling throughout society, and even revel in increasing societal ignorance.

The other chap, not sure of his name made a really good point and it's one that is continuously missed on here. There was another person involved in this and that was Aro Muric. As said on the podcast, he deserved a chance and he had earnt one. It wasn't all about Trafford, we could all see that the treatment of Muric was unfair and it's that which is what was causing the huge divide.

Fairly confident in saying the 100% of those who aimed stuff at Trafford and chanted for Muric while Trafford was in the nets sung the Shelvey Tresor song

Apart from VK and the coaching staff?
They clearly saw enough to want to replace Muric as No.1 fairly early into the transfer window.
Maybe they saw, in training, the type of performances which resulted in terms of Muric chucking one in (near as damn it literally) against Brighton and subsequently the various ricks dropped for Ipswich, resulting in him being dropped for them mid season?

Putting a 20yr old keeper in a promoted teams nets for their Premier league debut season is up there with the worst football decisions I have seen from Burnley.
No other team does it and I never want to see us do it again, no matter the keeper. Not surprising it ended with the lowest points total I have seen from Burnley, probably ever.
Thankfully he played a season in the championship and his progress is back on track from the level he should have been playing 12 months ago.

His age was nothing to do with it.
Southampton had a 27 yr old who has best part of 200 Prem games under his belt and also played for his country, they got 12 points.

He'd had a sensational season in the Championship, whatever you thought of him and deserved an opportunity. VK clearly agreed and eventually gave him that chance. There's two people there with different stories and Murics story at that point would have been that he'd been dropped without even getting a chance to prove himself at the top level.

It must do or all the clubs would be playing the next up and coming talents.
I can only think of Leeds who played a 21yr old? and they seemed to ship 5 and 6 goals most weeks.
Ramsdale is a strange one as he usually makes 4 great saves but still ends up conceding plenty.
Trafford had long spells of conceding with his first shot on target, not always his fault but a promoted side can't afford that. More experienced keepers are more likely to take up better starting positions etc..

VK 'clearly' agreed that much, that he sought a replacement No.1 at the earliest opportunity and waited for 75% of the season to have gone before giving Muric that chance.
No doubt Muric had a great season in the Championship playing expansive football, including many games where we might as well have played with 11 outfield players, but clearly the management already had in mind that he was not up to PL standard. The ricks that he dropped during that season, in his short cameo for us in the PL and enough times for Ipswich to drop him, suggest that maybe those fans calling for Aro might not have been right after all.

Muric and Trafford were both paid a wage to be in the nets or on the bench as the manager chooses. The manager is not going to make his decision based on rewards for past performance or based on sentimental "he deserves it" attitudes, but based on what he thinks is best for the club. (Or possibly, in Kompany's case, what's best for himself.)
Hard luck on Muric perhaps, and even more hard luck on Hladky who suffered in the same way, but the club isn't a charity. We're better off now IMO than if Muric had started, and I am confident that Trafford now is a better (and more valuable) keeper than Muric ever was or will be.

I was just stating that it was a good point by the chap on the podcast. He deserved a chance and Trafford had to accept it. Painted the goalkeeping coach in a good light as well who I think is at Leicester now.

A lot of chat about Trafford vs Muric but not much about the podcast itself.
Trafford was clearly getting advised by the co-host that Muric deserved a chance, and he seemed to be reluctantly accepting that, to my ear, which is to his credit. Muric may well be a liability, as he subsequently showed and again this season, but he helped get us up and not giving him a chance after his successor struggled for 20+ games would have been a bit like, well, a side with only 2 league titles in 150 years immediately sacking a manager who has won a European trophy and got them into the Champion’s League. Yep, crackers and disloyal decisions do happen in football.
But back to James, he is much more equipped now to do well and I hope we keep him.

They also saw enough of Trafford in the first 20-odd games to drop him for the last part of the season and replace him with the guy chucking goals in in training.

Muric had made about a dozen more league starts than Trafford had at the start of last season.
The starting position bit is nonsense as well
