Just been announced, thoughts ?

Worked hard enough for long enough to get it despite chucking his money into projects in other countries.

Well hes been waiting long enough, but his wife will think shes someone now, for a start she cant bloody sing, and being " POSH" should be right up her street, Lady " Posh" Victoria Beckham, sounds about right,

Worked with UNICEF for over 20 years as well as other charity work.
Been an ambassador around the world for this Country, ok not without a bit of controversy, but if you believe in the honours system, he ticks all the boxes.

By hook or by crook he got there eventually.

I appreciate it is not everyone's view but as you are asking for opinions here's mine.

Personally think he absolutely deserves a knighthood for his work off the pitch alone.

I'd love to be offered a knighthood for services to pedantic arguments on here, just so I could turn it down. Load of nonsense.

Tbh if i was offered one i'd likely take it so my folks had a day out down the palace, and for the plane upgrades

When you see some of the grovelling backside licking politicians who get them i'd feel like i was balancing it out, somewhat.....

We could do with revising the naming of some titles though, the Empire stuff is a best left in the past IMO

Knighthoods are so outdated and even more so for sportsman . Don't get the significance at all these days . Sounds like he s been trying to "earn" it for a while . Which is wrong for me as well but there you go

No problem with this. Great player, seems like a decent chap and does plenty for charities and he’s a good ambassador.

Nobody from Rugby League has ever got one, and I doubt many people deserve one more from the world of sport. But then it's a northern, working class sport.

All I can think about is him learning of this news and looking as smug as he does when sitting at the bar in those bloody Stella Artois ads. Still remember the emails which were disclosed a few years back expressing his disgust at not receiving a knighthood when other lesser mortals were being honoured.

Whereas Beckham might be interested in raising his own profile and possibly pushed on by his wife Sinfield is genuinely just trying to help a cause. I’ve met him and he’s very down to earth and selfless.

Not my favourite bloke, but when you think of Sir Gavin Williamson, Sir Jeremy Hunt, Sir Michael Gove, Sir Tony Blair etc etc. Yes he does deserve it.

Surprised people view Beckham as a narcissist given he doesn't really speak on anything, I thought post football he would be the type to appear on every movie/TV show, he's done quite the opposite, seems to live a really private life.

Beckham has deserved it far more than some clowns who have received it before him.

This thread doesn't seem as positive as the similar one for Jimmy.

I watched a fly on the wall style tv documentary on the beckhams a couple of years ago and tbh they seem like a normal family behind closed doors. Like many celebrities they portray an image in front of the camera but that isn’t necessarily who they really are.
Many of us are different people at work to what we are at home.
As for the knighthood, it doesn’t affect me so I don’t give it too much thought.

As for Beckham, he's spent a lot of money on crisis management and PR agencies over the years so it's nice that he's finally made a return on it.

Whilst we have a monarchy in this country then we will continue with this anachronistic bit of nonsense. A system that continues to celebrate empire and is largely controlled by the establishment and thus is incredibly hierarchical. Hence those seen as lowly but worthy get a BEM but people like Starmer who was poor as DPP just got a Knighthood for doing his job. Similarly high ranking civil servants, police and the military all get gongs just for breathing. Farcical doesn’t even begin to cover it.

This has been a long time coming.
I think he was a magnificent football player.

I see we are giving out ‘honours’ to love island slags now. The whole thing makes a mockery of some genuine deserving people. It’s time it was scrapped along with the idiots that award them.

MBE for a successful campaign against revenge porn and some random ****** is on the internet calling you a slag. Mental.

He's been trying desperately to get one since he retired. In all honesty the whole thing is a joke and just endorses the idea that famous people are worth more than ordinary folk.

These awards should go to those who go under the radar working their arses off to provide for others not famoud people who might have won wome fames of football once or did some charity work whilst avoiding as much tax as they can without ending up in court.

Sir Gareth and Sir David. Both knighted for winning nothing.
