Andorra v England

I was just reading the BBC sport build up and read this from the reporter:

Thomas Tuchel and his players have spent the week in Spain to aid team bonding and help prepare for the 2026 World Cup, which will be staged in sweltering conditions in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Cycling in sauna-like conditions and testing on their core body temperature have formed part of the camp, while the temperature is currently 24°C as we approach kick-off.
Give me that over driving wind and rain any day of the week....If you've been in Burnley this morning watching kids grassroots football like I have you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

any team that doesn't have massive possession won't stand a chance of winning the world cup in America. It's going to be far too hot to play football at any sort of tempo.

It was the Burnley reference that interested me .

The BBC headline reads “England in control early against Andorra”. You would bloody well hope so given the gulf between the 2 nations. :o

Judging some of Tuchels selections since arriving, and knowing he has only a very short contract, I hope we dont go backwards as a footballing nation. I get the feeling there will be quite a few strange decisions towards player selection and tactics in that reign. Lets hope I am wrong

Its the selections that get me. Henderson picked for experience-why when you have Bellingham, Rice and Kane. Curtis-not a regular in Liverpool team and certainly not a RB. James playing left back when hes a RB. Madueke not a regular starter for Chelsea. . Also a big opportunity to play Henderson in goal-what does he learn from playing Pickford v Andorra.Wow we have just scored

Quiet on here; is everyone busy wracking their brains as to who to blame for it being so boring/pedestrian now that Gareth Southgate's no longer around?

What an absolute yawn fest this is! I’m going to put it out there - is Bellingham massively overrated?

To be fair I don’t see him play that much for Madrid but when I have seen him play, I just don’t get all the hype!?!?

Real Madrids top scorer in his first season, winning La Liga and Champions League in his first season. 3rd in Ballon d'or that year. Better than 1 in 2 goals and assists for RM too.

He's maybe dropped off slightly, but only 21 years old. I think the hype is deserved tbh but the England shirt rarely does anyone any favours.

Blimey.
That was a very tedious watch
Played by a team of extremely uninspiring, tranquilised newts. :(

The new ones are the women’s kits. It has been said that the men may wear one of them in a one off game though.

It was important to impart my football knowledge gleaned in my 60+ years watching Burnley not to share with those who would benefit from my insights. Clearly to suggest England weren't very good is non controversial enough not to create offence to any England fans .

I can't for the life of me figure out what anyone gets from that?

Why would you approach this game with that lineup and style of play?

Why do we need 'experience' with Hendo here against Andorra, when every single player in the squad has far more experience of high-level football than any of their players?

Why isn't Wharton being bedded into form a partnership with Rice when it's a year until the next World Cup? What is Tuchel building towards?

I feel that games against minnows like this should be used exclusively to bed in certain shapes and personnel that we may need to use, say, if we are 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go in knockout football.

Two up top, wingers, one behind the strikers, 2/3 defenders and play to score 10. Anything has to be of more value than what we got today - what a colossal waste of everyone's time.

Dross!!!

Dire performance. Some of those players seem to treat playing for England like a chore. Clearly don't want to be there, but just turning up as they want to be assured of a place for the World Cup squad.

Rightly so. Who gives a **** about playing glorified friendlies against the likes of Andorra in June?

Everyone should be on their jollies. And they all moan cos they’re knackered when an actual proper tournament comes around. Wonder why?

Re: Andorra v England

The expansion of the World Cup by FIFA allowing multiple games in the qualifying stages has led to this mess.Playing more meaningless friendlies like next week adds to the issue. The disruptive nature of international breaks cause serious problems in our domestic leagues. Previously teams had to play domestic fixtures regardless
However teams signing up for Summer tournament games for commercial reasons certainly doesn't help players after an arduous domestic season
