Wasn’t expecting this though. He was a very good referee but then suffers in this way.

Wasn’t he the referee that was banned from PNE after their PA announcer said after half time “welcome to the Uriah Rennie show”?

I wish all the best to Uriah’s family.
I remember seeing the big man on regular occasions in the fitness suite at Hillsborough Leisure Centre a decade or two ago. So cruel to be stricken in this way. RIP.

The announcer did say that. Weren’t Preston punished by the FA?
He once refereed us at Deepdale and had an outstanding game. I believe he got the highest ever score on Rate the Ref that day.

I think they were. And he didn’t referee them again?

It was in 2006 against Palace. He refereed the Preston v Burnley game in the following season.

Sad news, RIP.
Loved his appearance in Marvellous!
He made the odd gaff, but was a solid ref who was well respected.
Despite sending Clarke Carlisle off in a Burnley defeat at Deepdale, his score of 92.69, still to this day, leaves him at the top of the all time Rate the Ref table.

Way too young to die. I've been to three funerals in the past couple of months and every single one of them was younger than me

Awful last year to his life. They say only to good die young-well we footie fans know that Uriah was a good' un and a trailblazer. Condolences to family and friends.
Maybe there should be a minutes applause at the start of the football season for such an icon?

That would be a fitting way for the Club and supporters to express appreciation for those often maligned officials without whom there wouldn't be a game at all. Sympathies to his family

Very good ref. I used to do drinks for the refs room in match days and spoke to him a couple of times a well as coming into the bar after the game for a drink. Physically imposing bloke who exuded authority but by the same token a thoroughly decent bloke who i found easy to talk to. RIP ref

R.I.P Uriah
This is such very, very sad news.
He's left this life far too early.
