Disappointing but not surprised. The longer these things drag on the more likely it seemed he was off. Suspect the same will happen with Brownhill. Not ideal for us.

Good luck to him hope it works out, we don't even know if he'd have made the step up just a shame we didn't get any money.
Least Esteve and Trafford will bring money.
Good luck with the rebuild Scott

He was being sent out on loan last August until O’Shea decided to turn into Rocky Balboa and square up to Matt Williams to force a move so we had to keep him then only got in because Worrall got injured, owes us nothing tbh.

Thanks for the memories of a brilliant season CJ and good luck.

Not ideal. I’d have liked to have seen him stay. I was also keen that we didn’t overpay.

Going to be honest that I would’ve been a bit worried about his height in the Premier League but feel we’ll miss his passes out of defence a lot. Hard to imagine them being easily replaced.

Good luck for the future CJ. Grateful for his efforts getting us up.

Disappointing but easily replaceable. The main thing we will miss is his distribution. Defensively he wasn’t strong enough to play Premier League football. We move on…..

It’s not, but also a position we’re well stocked and it would definitely have happened had we stayed down, so as good a time as possible for him to leave.

I was watching the video of his blocks, but what about his ball-carrying which was excellent and likely to be badly missed.
Anyhow, one down and three to go.
Best of luck, Scott.

I hope I was right In thinking he was vastly overrated. Time will tell.
I presume this will only make Trafford want to get out of the club even quicker however so It can't be good for the dressing room.

Get Michael Keane in asap

It's the worst possible scenario for us - out of contract and moving to a club in another country will mean we can only pick up a very small amount for him.

The surprise package of last season. I suppose that's one of the exciting parts of supporting a club.
Of course we'd have liked to have kept what was a happy and commited squad but that was never going to happen.
Parker will keep the new squad together and we will replace the player.
Thanks and good luck to CJ in the next stage of his career. The rewards were mutual

Been great for us but the means of his departure to Chelsea oops I mean Strasbourg leaves a sour taste. I would guess that his mate Trafford will soon be off to Newcastle. Just hope we can keep at least one of Brownhill and Esteve

Suggestion is he might be going to Marseilles

Presumably Strasbourg, no compensation, and then a paltry transfer fee to Chelsea if they think he’s good enough.

Fair play to him. Was pure luck with other injuries
he got in our side this season, he’s taken his chance and has seen the money side of it. Chelsea centre half he won’t be though in the future. Good luck to him

Yeah but he cost us £300k and helped get us promotion last season. I’d say we got our monies worth.

Not great news. A poor move all round. He's not going to be in the shop window in the same way he would in the PL. You could argue that bar a handful of games he'll be stepping down a level from the Championship. He doesn't owe us anything, but it's not a good sign that we have a key member of the first team walking away after such a successful season.

Good move for him, he doesn't owe us anything, we benched him or farmed him out on loan for most of his time here.

Probably doesn't fancy what's in store next season. Now he'll be nice and warm, challenging up the top end of the table and playing in the Champions League.

Would be a good replacement for CJ.

Before this thread turns into predictions of doom followed by accusations of bedwetting, I'd also like to add my appreciation for his contributions last season. He was immense when he got his chance. Playing at the top end of Ligue 1 is a good move for anyone's career.

It’s a shame. 3 year deal was a weird one, given we were dishing out 4 years to everyone else. Kind of shows you can have the best season ever, have a manager who develops you and have a togetherness with a group rarely seen, and still none of that matters.

I say get Tanganga in for £1.2m tomorrow and we’ve got a better defender with PL experience, for little extra cost.

Is the Championship a stronger league than the French league ? You’d think you’d want to test yourself in the PL. He is probably being paid a fortune though to move. Ball carrying and passing were great but I expect there will be more back to the wall defending to do next season and he’s still untested and inexperienced at that level. Great for one season though.

Disappointing but not unexpected. I think we are a good club for young CB's to cut their teeth with.

I'd have O'Shea back to replace CJ and I think we're just as good, if not a little better. Then Tanganga to come in as cover.

I’m really surprised you’d have someone back who was so eager to leave and refused to play for us. It’s the last type of character I want here to be honest.

That's a good line of thought RV. My Millwall friend who told me Flemming would be a big hit has also told me Tanganga is really good and well loved at Millwall. He thinks he's ready for the PL next season but he'd be gutted

I am not surprised owing to the length of quietness over the offer we made.
I thought he was truly outstanding for us in a number of ways and hope we always have a place in his heart and hope his move is a good one for him.
At least we have two and a half months to plan a new capable defender
What we don’t want is players of his ability leaving us late August

I don't know wether I believe what has been written about him to be honest or what the truth of the story is, I've based this more on the fact that I think he's a decent fit for us in terms of level (probably lower PL quality but better than Champ), he's got a good ariel threat which we need, good experience and likely wouldn't break the bank and he's a decent age.

As a club we've been quite loose lipped over a few things we shouldn't imo, the O'Shea comments, the Tresor ones and the ones where Matt Williams said CJ was close to signing are all examples. I'm sure there was some truth in that players wanted to leave in the summer, but I also believe we've probably put a bit of spin on it as well.

*but I agree about Tanganga, I just think we will need another CB as well.

Would you have Berge back or the other players who effectively downed tools / declared their interest to leave after the Spurs game. There’s a lot been made of this O’Shea / Williams incident, some have convinced themselves it happened.
