In the news again today , anyone care to share their experiences? I’ve just been prescribed it , not started the jabs yet.

I lost 2 stone in 2 months on mounjaro. Paid privately . Started on 2.5 then went up to 5 . Got to my target weight then stopped. Let’s see if it stays off now as you can’t take the injection forever. It really does suppress your appetite though,

My other half as been on 3 months lost 4 stone.Put practically eating nothing proper supresses your appetite.cant even finish her tea.She struggles to go toilet with it can go 5 days sometimes can’t be good. Only thing I’ve found is we can’t enjoy Meals out it’s pointless paying! Although I could do to be on it really 20.5 stone haha.

How did you get it prescribed if don't mind asking?
I'm thinking of starting but will have to get it privately. Not asked GP

Lost near 7 stone now since last September. Minimal side effects.
Absolutely no appetite anymore though. I barely eat 1000 calories a day

My wife has a complicated medical history (including friending 6 months in hospital in Rio with multiple blood clots in her lungs, legs and groin) - she has always been overweight and has diabetes (diet controlled) yet the doctors don’t prescribe her Mounjaro as she doesn’t meet the criteria ! We live in Kent and someone told us that the doctors here are reluctant to prescribe it - very frustrating.

Type 2 diabetic whose been on it since October.
Lost over 4 stone, started on 2.5mg and now on 5mg, won't be increased any more.
HBA1C has dropped from 85 to 43
It suppresses appetite for sure however towards the end of the 7days it starts to come back a little. I've stabilised with weight loss now but still taking the jab. I'm eating less and happy with it.
Only side effects I've had is wind, and if I eat something heavy and rich it causes very eggy wind.
If you are diabetic and they are recommending Mounjaro etc then if maybe talk to your GP about the Counterweight programme as well, this a total diet replacement and support programme over 12months. It has fantastic results with many people seeing there diabetes in remission and no longer needing to use medication.
As with anything Mounjaro is good but it's not a miracle, you still need to eat healthy and cut out the crap and it does work better with exercise.
As my GP said, if you eat crap on Mounjaro and lose weight it's masking the fact you're still eating crap!!

Get it privately. You can get it for near £100 a month now. I've saved that on food and booze every month anyway

I’ve looked at this recently as my sister uses it. I’ve been going to a SlimmingWorld group for nearly 6 years but I’ve crept up a bit this year. Lots of factors cause it to be honest.
Does Mounjaro affect your energy levels due to the lack of calories you’re consuming? I cycle a lot and obviously need fuel. Cheers.

I’m 2nmonths in. Lost 20lbs +. I’d say it is life changing. Removes food noise. Minimal side effects. Wind and slight constipation. Changes your desires for food as well. Eating much more healthy options. Next gen oral medication already in clinical trials. I truly be;I’ve this might be the last obese generation. Also helps with a variety of organ issues. No doubt there will be other long term issues but at the moment it is like a wonder drug to me.

All I'll say is that for the food you do eat/have appetite for, make sure it's high-quality nutrition - full of vitamins, protein and fibre.
I've read a lot that people using Ozempic have lost a significant amount of muscle mass and suffered some aspects of malnutrition, due to not eating sufficient amounts of the above.
But all the best with it!

Well, I’ve just applied through Asda after reading this thread. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. I’ll keep going to SlimmingWorld and will still cycle and walk regularly. I just find it hard not to have a massive binge now and again which throws me off course. Hoping this will help with the compulsion to eat rubbish.
Despite being with my other half for 23 years, we’re getting married in September so that is another motivation. Fingers crossed.

As I'm only a few days in, I'm quite happy to post my weight, every 7 days.
My starting weight was 16-7 lbs.
I have been around the 17st mark for a few years now, maybe 15 years. About 2 years ago I was diagnosed as having developed diabetes. So I tried to reduce my weight, with not much success, so in January this year, tried a little harder, and got down to 16-7 in 4 weeks. However since then I've had the occasional chocolate binge, so stopped weighing myself.
4 weeks ago I was invited to 'trial' Ozempic, receivng my 3 months of meds at the end of last week.
Decided to record my starting weight and pleasantly surprised to be weighing in at 16-7.

Cheers for that Duke. I’ve just done 60 mile ride but I usually go out to 15-30 milers. Will see how it goes.

Much easier when you’re not dragging around loads of timber isn’t it. I’m still 2.5 stone lighter than I was at the start but I did lose nearly 6 stone. Hoping this will kick start me again!

Are you familiar with the "5th dose" that you can extract with a normal syringe? Means you can make your pen last an extra week, or take your next dose before seven days, when the effects are wearing off.

I did it once but my appetite returned. So I'm not sure it's actually a 5th dose

It’s a near instant fix but can have consequences down the line if you don’t do it properly.
GENERALLY SPEAKING (but not always) you’re overweight as your diet has been high calorie & nutritionally low over an extended period of time, so you need to change this in tandem with taking the medication.
If your appetite is low and you are having 1000kcal days or similar, then this needs to be really nutritionally dense & lots of quality protein. You simply cannot eat low volumes of processed rubbish and hope that your body will just manage.
What can happen is yes you loose the weight which is brilliant and will aid health & mobility initially, however in consuming so little food you starve your body of essential nutrients needed to maintain it. In addition to fat you will also loose muscle mass if you don’t eat correctly, this is a problem if you are 50+ years old as you are more likely to develop mobility issues caused by low bone density & a low level of core strength caused by loosing what muscle you had in the first place.
The vast majority of issues in “aging” are initially caused by poor mobility/strength levels which then snowball with other problems.
If you are under 40 you can probably take this with caution and ensure the diet that got you overweight in the first place changes.
If you are 50+ you absolutely need to combine these drugs with the above diet and some level of strength training to ensure you maintain your muscle mass and bone density as you get older - and nutrition is key.
These drugs really are a silver bullet initially, but without giving your body what it needs, it will waste away over time and the miracle result now might result in you being frail & aged in years to come.
Best of luck to everyone above - I can imagine the confidence gained is immense. Just remember life is a marathon, and you might have a long way to run (hopefully!!)

No I think he is saying they are great as a piece of the puzzle. But you need the other pieces. They absolutely make you lose weight. But the body will take it from fat, bone and muscle unless you do something to tell it to prefer raiding the fat only. This bit is really important. Cos eat rubbish and don’t exercise and you will have fat around a weak frame that in turn won’t burn fat when you come off the meds. So you will be worse than when you started.

If you're not eating properly and putting the nutrients in, it's likely to do more harm than good long term. The gallbladder removal departments are likely to be busy soon.

And even if you avoid that outcome which is probably most people, you can't take it forever and will put the weight back on unless lifestyle and diet are changed.
Better to lose weight slowly, cut down on your pork life and get some exercise!

Yes, I suffered with Pancreatitis several years ago - was hospitalised for over two weeks. This totally rules me out of ever being able to take this current crop of weight loss jabs - so I'm doing it the old fashioned way by controlling my diet and regular exercise.

I think the poster meant after you finish taking it. If you don't break the lifestyle habits that led to the weight gain in the first place, then you'll end up putting the weight back on.

*You* have broken your lifestyle habits, not the jab. The jab might have been the catalyst for change you needed to do that, but the drug is no longer in your system. That's the point me and the poster you replied to originally are making.

I will add, if you are still on the jab, then yes it is suppressing your appetite - once you come off it, you will need to maintain that without the influence of the jab on your appetite.
