Weiss completes Burnley medical
Latest from Sky Germany:

Germany U20 goalkeeper Max Weiss has successfully completed his Burnley medical.

The Premier League club has a £4.2m (€5m) agreement to sign him from Karlsruhe.

The 21-year-old kept eight clean sheets in 34 Bundesliga 2 matches last season.

Where's CT's article ?

Sounds a decent sized fee for what will be a backup. Signal of intent?

You'd think that the plan is for him to eventually become first choice

Not sure £4.2m is a decent sized fee.

In time but I’d imagine number two for a couple of years

Why would he not be first choice?

You don't usually sell your no.1 and sign someone you don't intend to play, that leaves you with no goalkeeper.

If we are signing a young goalkeeper from a lower level of football who is considerably smaller (keeper terms) and not as good or as experienced as the one we are selling to be our number 1 then we are in big big trouble this season

So if this is a done deal we’ll have

Trafford
Hladky
Green
Weiss

If, as expected Trafford is going, and Weiss is coming in as a #2, is Hladky good enough for the Prem or is he going to be off as well?

Will Green be happy being third choice or will he be wanting some game time after already missing out on a year of playing time?

We could end up with 3 completely new keepers from last year

We'll probably need to move Hladky on.
So ideally:
Trafford, Weiss, Greene
We can only hope :D .

The club are delaying the announcement as CT hasn't got the article finished yet. He's been too occupied watching the cricket from Headingley.

I think we have learned that signing a young goalkeeper and throwing him into the premier league isn’t always the best idea. If Traff is off he should be understudy to an experienced number one for a year, he obviously has much promise.

Can’t help think someone like Fabianski on a free wouldn’t be a bad idea.

With our budget and as a backup I’d say it is. Would probably make him our third most expensive keeper.

I’d like Fabianski but probably too old for number one. Ramsdale or Pope would be my choice. Perhaps Johnstone.

I think they would want 2 “number one level” keepers as they have had with Pope & Dubravka.

But I’d say so as he is probably on at least £75k I’d imagine and bigger clubs than us would probs take him on that money, I guess it’s what we are willing to pay. They had our pants down for him at £10m

Posted this list on another thread but here you go, pick anyone from this lot.

Joe Neenan, Chris Pearce, David Williams, Andy Marriott, Nicky Walker, Wayne Russell, Frank Petter Kval, Craig Mawson, Nik Michopoulos, Luigi Cennamo, Marlon Beresford (2nd spell), Danny Coyne, Nathan Abbey, Paul Rachubka, Brian Jensen, Diego Penny, Alex Cisak, Matt Gilks, Adam Legzdins, Will Norris, Wayne Hennessey, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Vaclav Hladky.

Most of the are long retired and the ones that aren't are pretty terrible but they do all have that crucial "played for Burnley before" quality to them that's seemingly all-important.

Without digressing, I'm not sure you can put Gilks, Legzdins, and arguably Hennessy in the same bracket as Wayne Russell and Joe Neenan. The former three played at a very decent level for a good part of their career

I know United are trying to offload Altay Bayındır. Unsure if he’s someone we would / should be interested in. Seemed to be highly rated at fenerbache. But hasn’t made the grade at United.

Simon Mignolet would be an interesting one. He’s 37 now. But he’s playing consistently. Since he left Liverpool he returned to Belgium to club Brugge and has done very well there. Would be an experienced head for us who could be worth a look.

It will likely be one none of us consider. IF Trafford does go. There’s every chance he may stay yet.

Personally I would be inclined to sell if we got a ridiculous offer. That we could reinvest in the other positions in the team. If we could get a solid experienced keeper in.

You don't usually sell your no.1 and sign someone you don't intend to play, that leaves you with no goalkeeper.
Parker has already stated that he will be playing a system of “rushy” keepers next season where it will be rotated during the outfield players throughout the game.
He’s even confirmed that Josh Cullen will be the first rushy against Spurs.

I wouldn't think so, not unless someone comes up with £40m and we can find he's replacement. Absolutely nothing in the news of confirmation that he is at all, all media rubbish trying to push a story on the back of us signing Weiss, who will not be starting in the Premier league this season.
