Good signing, especially on a free.

It got close to being and old fashioned style of transfer - announced without anyone knowing about it

Like the look of this signing. In all honesty, much preferred to trying to get O’Shea back. IMHO.

Good signing, especially on a free transfer. Let's hope he can remain injury free in his time with us and make a positive contribution.

Had a few injuries I think, but seems a sensible punt on a free. Definitely adds to the squad.

It was a one year deal at Ipswich. It doesn't say what deal we have signed him on.

Spoke excellently in his interview, accepting a 1 year deal and trying to prove himself is great, think this could turn out a really shroud signing

This could be an excellent signing.
No doubting the pedigree or prospectus, but injuries, and being part of an over bloated utd squad, means he's quite fresh.
If he stays injury free we could get the best years out of him.

From rumour to signed in half a day must be some kind of record for us.

Like this signing. Nothing against Worall but I'd much sooner have Tuanzebe on the bench than him. It will be interesting to see who starts with Esteve!

Our record breaking defence could be completely overhauled at this rate

If Trafford leaves (many on here seem to be saying he still will), then our backline for the opening game at Spurs could look something like... Weiss (or new)
Tuanzebe Humphreys Esteve Hartman

This is also based on Esteve staying, which isn't a guarantee either.

After the season we've just had, it would be a shame to see that defence completely different in terms of personnel, but I guess this is the PL and it's almost a different sport.

Hopefully we aren't repeating the same mistakes of two seasons ago when we pretty much changed the first eleven, without allowing those who'd got us promoted a chance to prove themselves.

Obviously it was VK's choice to make so many changes, but even if our hand is forced this time through players being sold or leaving on a free it's never a good thing for a promoted side to play with a such new team at PL level.

Same position on the pitch (although apparently he can also play at CB), signed from a team who were easily relegated, and is rated about the same as Mears was.

Just my opinion, but I obviously hope he turns out to be immense!

From what I've read, they generally think he's a good player who made a significant contribution in their promotions season and put in some good performances at PL level too. Just that he's been a bit injury prone/and had some bad luck with a finger injury sustained when washing up! Most don't begrudge him the move and acknowledge that he's moving closer to family with this transfer. Ipswich fans seem quite a down-to-earth lot, noting that it's just roles reversed with them having signed Muric and O'Shea from us when we were relegated.

Mears had just spent the previous season on loan at Marseille while his parent club Derby had finished 18th in the Championship.

Injuries seem to be the worry with him, not ability.
Best of luck to him. Hopefully at the end of the season we view him as a josh laurent style signing, didn't cost a lot, not a massive risk but made a big impact

Isn't he a CB that can play RB and not the other way round?

He's played more games at CB than at RB during his career.

I don't think a new signing, who has only signed for a year, doesn't know the players, should even be mentioned as captain

Good signing on paper, and a sensible move for all parties. Hopefully if it goes well we'd be looking to quickly explore a longer contract.

Primarily a centre back from whenever I've seen him, but it's not hard to imagine him playing at right back if Parker ever wants to adopt the flexible 442 in possession/532 out of possession shape that we adopted last season at times (particularly right at the beginning when Vitinho was on the right flank). We could even do the same on the left with Humpreys and Hartman.

And of course, this gives us real options to play a back 3 because Tuanzebe is a natural fit to play right side of a conventional back 3 in a 352.

It's hard to quantify this until we know how many he's seen.
