There's normally a Glastonbury thread on here.
Put the telly on when I got home and found Franz Ferdinand on. A band I used to like a lot but have really listened to much for a while but really enjoying them. Putting on a good show.

These sort of sets either go down a storm or are bit awkward and half-arsed. This was brilliant.

I enjoy all sorts of music, grew up in a time where hip-hop and rap etc where huge , this just made me smile and giggle the whole way through. I’m more of a guitar based music person these days but that was brilliant in its own way

Alanis Morissette - absolutely fantastic and how is that her first time at Glasto
Franz Ferdinand - very good, and Peter Capaldi there to support his 2nd Cousin was a nice touch
Wet Leg - as good as ever
Lorde - a great start to the proceedings
Lewis Capaldi - not my cup of tea but can hold a crowd
Biffy Clyro being Biffy, as tight as you like and powerful choruses
Self Esteem - an absolutely flawless set, she is something else and a powerful message

Biffy Clyro and Franz Ferdinand were both good value and I’ll probably catch Busta Rhymes’ set later.

As I write every year IoW & Glasto are my introduction to music I haven't heard before. I record as many as I can and haven't got around to watching even close to half but my best so far are Wunderhorse, need a stronger vocalist mind.
They'll be going on my wish list.

Compared to the price of one-off gigs, I thinks it's hard to argue that Glasto is extortionately priced...
Whether you like the music is a different matter...
In terms of live music value for money; with all the extras, it's unbeatable.

We're not there this year unfortunately.
Day 1 at Glastonbury ( or at least that's when the BBC will have you believe it starts)
Bands watched
Supergrass, Shed Seven, English Teacher, Blossoms, Biffy Clyro ( nothing after that on the BBC appealed with their narrowness of what a viewer wants ) and Alanis Morissette on catch up later on
A special mention for Shed Seven who have done an amazing job of becoming almost Lazarus like in their rebirth.
I once went to watch Rick Witter do a DJ set at a small bar in York called the 1331 on a Sunday evening when The Sheds pretty much by that time had disbanded bar the odd Christmas gig here and there, nice fella too!
Fair play to them and long may their rebirth continue, for me it's the best "live" they've ever been
As for Alanis Morissette being "amazing", I suppose it's easy to be amazing when you're miming to half of your set!

I was there for that Bowie set. It seems to have grown in popularity as time has moved on- my memory of it is being underwhelmed. Bowie was in a rut at the time and about as irrelevant as he had ever been in his career - this booking was a bit of a gamble for the festival.
While I’m glad I got to see him live it wasn’t the greatest ever festival set. It wasn’t the best I saw that that weekend. And I’m a big Bowie fan.

Happy for Shed Seven. They have some great anthems that I had many a good sing along to back in the day. They never got the acclaim back then. Good on em for having more success now

There's a special 25 year release due out soon. I've only seen it on tv but I wasn't disappointed, I saw him around 87 at Maine Road and from memory it didn't seem that different although he did say in 2000 that he was recovering from laryngitis

I’m one of the lucky 210k. Hot, sweaty, knackered and stinking but there’s nothing else comes close to Glastonbury. Not really a CMAT fan but she gave it all she’s got in her set yesterday and has won me over. Franz Ferdinand blew me away but if you get chance check out Elvana - Elvis Presley does Nirvana. The highlight of the festival so far for me. A good sprinkling of Clarets around flying the flag. Hoping the Prodigy live up to my expectations. UTC

2016 was a very bad year for rain.
Didnt get a ticket this year, so avoided so far but have a good number of friends down. As usual, they are having a ball! Vaule for money is unreal.
My mates pitched up on Tuesday, sent a picture with their neighbour - someone involved in London Clarets

Bumped into a few Clarets yesterday. Giving a home shirt a run out later. Ash were very good. All building up to Deftones and Neil Young tonight.

My youngest daughter is there this year (28) and she’s loving it.
Some interesting asides .
She says it’s incredibly hot and theirs little to no shade at Glastonbury.
The food available is unbelievable good and value for money circa £6 for a pizza - + drink . Noodles + drink - gyros plus drink - Buddha bowls plus drink.
Beers are circa £6 a pint.
Showers are hot and clean.
Free water sites and refills around the place.
She got their tuesday and camped in bushey field good view from afar of pyramid spent the first two days exploring and theirs that much to see its unbelievable big averaging over 15k steps a day at moment.
She actually sent a postcard from their on tuesday and it arrived Friday - apparently their is postal facilities which in the modern age struck me as odd .
She was initially dissapointed in the bands playing this year but she says that theirs that much going on you could have an amazing time and hardly see any bands

Prices are indeed reasonable tbf for both food and drink if you shop around. It's even cheaper when you can take in your own booze too! As long as it's not in a glass bottle as after all Glastonbury is still farmland used for cattle and sheep. The only thing is though it's hard work at the start of the day when you're carrying a big f*ck off rucksack containing 20 cans of pop, 12 cans of beers, a bag of wine and two metal flasks containing vodka and JD! You've got to drink quite quickly at first just to get rid of some weight

Yesterday we paid £70 for Prodigy/Carl Cox tickets at Co-op next April. Cox did 3hr disco/house Fri and Prodigy are playing. Even small gigs £15-25.
I am not a band person normally but watch 5+ bands a day plus minimum 6hrs of dance music p/day at Glastonbury, then there is art and interactive stuff in places like Circus & Theatre fields, healing etc. You can take as much beer as you can carry and then go back to the car, camping is included and 75% of food vendors sign up for a 'cheap' meal deal at £6.
I recognise times are hard but £378 is very reasonable for a festival of this quality Wed-Sunday.

It is expensive, however when you put into context like this, it doesn’t sound too horrific. A four day pass at Lytham festival is £240 plus fees.4 days VIP is £600 plus fees.

Daughter and Son- in- law
Grandson and Granddaughter
All having a Fabulous time
Daughter and son- in -law been several times before
Have been to different sets
The grandchildren have seen 1975 Lorde and others
Daughter and Husband seen Supergrass and Franz Ferdinand and others
I am at a very hot Lincoln looking after our lovely 3 legged rescue cat Bruce and the house
Have managed to get out into the City Centre and back by bus before it gets too hot

I actually thought Alanis Morissette was miming on some songs ? Looked to be struggling to keep up with the backing track at times? Though with the sheer “quality “ of auto tune these days you could make Brian Blessed sound like Brian Wilson .
Good few yrs back Dolly Parton mimed her whole set .
While possibly lacking a couple of big names this year looks and sounds pretty solid alround .

Whilst auto tune works wondrously well with digital recordings (even I can sing) it is still far from perfect for live work, and you would know if someone used it.

I saw Antony Szmierek at the Kanteen am Berghain in Berlin in April. Tiny venue, less than 150 people. One of the best gigs I've ever been to!
