It was still there on 3rd April 2003. My missus & my mates partner were asked to vacate the table we had been sitting at while my mate & I were at the bar. I gave the little hitler guy a piece of my mind. (Dinosaurs)
I remember the date because it was my pals partners 40th birthday, and we were there to see a Meat Loaf tribute upstairs.
The Meat Loaf tribute guy was born & raised up stoops & at the time he was residing in Stockport.

What’s the line?!

It was a metal line in the carpet between the main room and the back part where the snooker table is. Women weren’t allowed past the line.

I seem to remember it still being in place in the early 2000’s.

I don't know either but I could hazard a guess based on words by 'Dazzler'. I'm guessing females weren't allowed in a particular area without a male companion. Or males weren't allowed without a female companion, same diff. If that's so, it's a bit outdated to say the least

It was nice to have somewhere where we could enjoy some peace and quiet without all the cackling and mindless chit chat about what Bert had for his tea, and how much tripes gone up this week.

Early 2000’s from memory.

A product of its time. It’s been left behind.

It originally was no women or children. At some point women got scrubbed out, but you could still see it, so it was only no children. Remember it was still there but only for children in 2009.

Back in the day my dad used to drink in the dressers club in Nelson and women were only allowed in on Christmas day.
A chap called werty beets used to bring his pet ferret in much to the chagrin of the regulars, but there was nothing in the rules to deny a ferret - no dogs, cats or pigeons, but nothing against ferrets.
Werty beets however finally made the mistake of referring to the ferret as a she, so it got banned on the grounds of it being a female.

That was the same in The Dressers Club in Colne
All my male family were members.
Not sure what year when they started letting women in, as I had left the UK

I remember Nelson Poultry was men only full stop until fairly recently.

To be honest I don’t see the issue. They’ve less to worry about with a pub like that surely!?!

The plaque and the brass line shown on photo below which was taken in the Miners in 2010. The plaque was located above the photograph
I Can't recall the actual date the plaque was taken down, but I do remember once a woman standing with just one foot over the line arguing with a steward that they could ban one half of her.
Happy days. :-)
