Excellent piece on BBC at lunch with Alex Stewart. It was about having not used the Duke ball in England’s County Championship for the last three seasons (it’s still a trial) and whilst it might help us against Australia (in Australia), it’s making a lot of games here very boring, as it’s easier to bat and less happens, so lots more higher scoring games, many of which end in draws.

For a good few years, they played this fixture in Buxton.
I've some great memories of it.
Good to see it's being played in Chesterfield. One of the picturesque venues in County Cricket.

I remember it being called off one year because of the snow at Buxton.
And just read it was 50 years ago.

Some biggish first innings scores in process (in Div 1: Wocs 487-5, Somerset 315-7, Surrey 470-3, Warks 410-9.
Hard Yakka for the bowlers in this weather, Jimmy's done well this morning.
(I see Balderstone has chipped in too now, 35/3)

What is the reason for using this different ball again?
Averaging 7.5 wickets per game at Lunch of Day 2 in the round of fixtures.

Apparently for English bowlers to learn a different skill set to prepare for bowling in Australia. I'm not sure how many of the potential Ashes squad are playing in this round of matches but I suspect it's no more than zero.

I do hope that when Jordan Clark exited the Surrey dressing room to go out to bat with the score at 745-5, he muttered the time honoured phrase
" Don't worry lads, I always was the man for a crisis ! "

246/8 now, hopefully a 100 innings lead. Meanwhile at The Oval, Surrey are 803/8. Sibley passed 300 before being dismissed. I'm considering going down that game tomorrow, hopefully Durham can make a good fist of their reply.

Finished on 820 for 9 declared. Drissell 1 for 247! Although to be fair, he did bowl 45 overs.

Had a great day out at Chesterfield yesterday - lovely old ground.Loved watching Jimmy bowling rapidly and taking some early wickets - still absolute class. Despite being a Yorkie, I hope that Lancs go on to win this one and proudly wore my Burnley Express t-shirt.
