York races

Hi all, off to York on Saturday, the county stand is shirt and tie, the grandstand and paddock is a little cheaper with no dress code. Don't really fancy a tie in the heat but is it worth it?
Asy tips gratefully received.
Cheers

Plenty of fun to be had without the tie
If watching the races having a drink and a flutter are your thing then no need to upgrade
It does feel like an occasion to go in the grandstand suited and booted but you don’t gain much - access for all to the parade ring, food and drink so if you want to save yourself a sweaty afternoon and some money then I wouldn’t bother

York is one of those courses where there isn’t a great deal of difference for the money because the grandstand area is very nice, lots of bars inside across all floors and you can get to the parade ring still you just have to walk round the back that’s all rather than down the front of the course.

You also get access to the bars at the back with a County Stand pass, plus you skip the queue on the way in and you get your own set of slightly less busy bookies. I think it’s worth it but you can easily have a good day without. The dress code is nonsense. On a hot day they relax the rules but you still have to wear a tie. I’ve seen people in there wearing shorts, trainers and a polo shirt with a bow tie. It’s daft.

Fully agree with claretnbluebiscuit. £5-10 extra when you're likely spending £100+ on travel, refreshments, bets is nothing much for the benefits gained.
Good luck with your punts whatever you chose, it's a great venue.

I was there the weekend before last. Another very hot day - County stand / suit / tie / sweaty back etc. Place was rammed - however the standard grand stand seats were quieter - found some nice shade on the rear balcony overlooking the food areas. Queues for drinks were hardwork - they now have the self serve / auto pourers which were much quicker and colder. Sorry don't have any tips - had 2 winners out of the 6 I bet on which paid for the taxi home from town. Shuttle buses provided into town. Free parking on the Knavesmire - but must collect before 11am next day. All in was a great day out - the only thing that spoilt it wa Olly Murs playing in the evening.

York have announced that there's no jackets required this weekend..... but you'll still need a collared shirt and tie.
