Wrexham, Man United, City, Bolton and Newcastle Welsh international Wyn Davies
has died aged 83.

Re: Wyn Davies RIP
Nick named 'The Mighty Wyn' probably in reference to Manfred Mann's 'The Mighty Quinn'
Re: Wyn Davies RIP
Was he related to Ron Davies?

Re: Wyn Davies RIP
I remember Wyn Davies getting the winner for Newcastle at the Turf. 1-0 in the late '60s, I think. Very good header of the ball.

Re: Wyn Davies RIP
Ron and Wyn Davies were up there, so to speak, with our very own Andy Lochhead as tough, uncompromising centre forwards and great headers of the ball.
Ron Davies in particular was a beast.

Re: Wyn Davies RIP
His nickname was Wyn the Leap. He seemed to get higher than everyone else and could really head a ball.exilecanada wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:15 pmNick named 'The Mighty Wyn' probably in reference to Manfred Mann's 'The Mighty Quinn'

The fans certainly took their song from Manfred Mann's number.exilecanada wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:15 pmNick named 'The Mighty Wyn' probably in reference to Manfred Mann's 'The Mighty Quinn'

Re: Wyn Davies RIP
I got confused and thought this was about the moustachio'd chap from the old army programme then realised that was Windsor Davies (I think).

Ron and WYN Davies were both great centre forwards
Saw Ron play for Southampton a few times and he was a nightmare to mark

I remember getting a Wyn Davies sticker for my Shoot! album, then seeing him on the telly, and thinking - “ he’s a good player”. Always looked out for him. RIP Wyn.

Interesting that both Wyn and Ron signed for United well beyond the point when their personal careers had peaked
Wyn when they started their slide towards relegation and Ron during their one season in the second tier

Re: Wyn Davies RIP
'Wyn the Leap' might have been a reference to Welsh Lynn Davies who won long jump Olympic gold in 1964.

I'm not doubting that but just think there might be a connection.

Re: Wyn Davies RIP
I'm sure Lynn was called 'Lynn the Leap'.
Maybe Wyn then became known as Wyn the Leap.
Or maybe it was the other way round !
