Just been looking over some old team sheets with my father in law from when he played for Blackpool reserves (No. 5 D. Horn).
Came across this one against Burnley reserves in 1981. A few on here went on to have decent careers

Lee Dixon given away by idiot John Bond as not being good enough.

Very intersting but surely that's the FA Youth Cup not the reserves.

Micky Phelan didn't start out as a goalkeeper, did he?

We won this game 1-0 on a snow covered Bloomfield Road pitch. Our goal was scored 20 minutes from time by Kenny Saunders; Kenny was a 17 year old trialist from Liverpool who wasn't offered a contract. He still works in football as a junior coach on Merseyside.

Yes that's correct, sorry all! He had quite a few team sheets, naturally I went looking for any Burnley ones and had not checked the title. Quite a bit before my time, but I recognise a lot more names than I had expected to

Thanks for that! My father in law could not remember the details of the game so I'll let him know and see if that jogs his memory

I don't think he would as he is quite a collector of sports memorabilia and from games he played in particular, but I will certainly ask the question
I imagine if he did not want to sell, he would probably do you a photocopy for free. Obviously that is not the same thing, but I can ask the question if you would want one?

Thanks Poulton that's appreciated. I can understand his not wanting to part with it if he played in the game - it's ok about a photocopy, I'm a bit of an obsessive collector & they have to be the originals. Many thanks for posting it though as I was never sure if Blackpool had issued for the game - so it's one to add to the wants list! Cheers.

Well I'll let you know either way what he says re: the original copy
He actually got these out to go and compare collections with another Blackpool collector, so fingers crossed there could even be a spare copy.

Didn't he openly admit he didn't knuckle down until he went to Bury and then was signed by Stoke?

He did. Admitted that we were right to release him. Then Bury to Stoke before the big move to Arsenal.

"ex-Claret". Technically, he was on the pitch (unless sent off) physically but didn't play.

Injured when he came and also suffering as we now know. Shame people still feel the need to have a dig.

Is there a way for the admin's to send you my email address so I can get your postal address? If so, I am happy for them to share my details.

Off topic, but why do/did they always state the team colours in programmes and, in this case, team sheets?
I can’t imagine anyone turning up to this game and wondering which team was which.

Paul still goes in our local pub in Poulton. Always pleasant and says hello.
Charlie Adams was in recently and also Jon Parkin (ex Nobber).

I imagine that it's for the referee's benefit? (Also any media that might be present.)
Fans know of course, but if the ref/commentator gets the same team sheet, and isn't familiar with the teams, then that little bit of additional info may be rather useful.

Wicketkeeper, if I recall.
Their dad wallpapered a friends wall one day. Instead of starting on the chimney breast & working outwards, he started at the window & worked to the other wall......... as it went along, the pattern lurched further down till it was almost at right angles at the other end! Priceless!

Lee Dixon, we do have that cameo at Leicester in spring 83 to goon, but Casper and Dobbo must have remembered him to sign for them.
Out of that team the other star was to be Steve Kennedy centre back. He looked a talent 84/85 but he got injured at Hull under Benson at Hull and he kept him on, that sadly was virtually the end,

I might be wrong, but I think "B.Greenwood" would have been my neighbour at the time "Ian Greenwood". He was good friends with both of the Phelan's who lived just down the road of off Hallam Crescent. We lived up on Linkside

I’m not sure Marcus was a wicket keeper. I seem to remember him as an excellent cover fielder.

This is one of those (IMHO) unexpectedly fascinating threads that springs up from time to time.
As a Burnley supporter for 50plus years who’s never lived anywhere near Lancashire, these local recollections are really interesting.

We lived directly across the road from his family. Didn't he have a bad injury around that time? I was only about 7 or 8 when we moved from Linkside Avenue where they lived.
