I know of two friends who are going.

My wife and I are hoping to join them, but medical appointments are making it tricky.

Much nicer place for two or three days than Huddersfield!

Unfortunately I don’t seem to be able to get to either game but having been to both towns it’s less than a no brainier to say choose Shrewsbury, lovely town loads and loads of great pubs and restaurants good river cruise , lots of history , lovely scenic drive there, good modern ground and then there is Huddersfield………………..struggling to say anything really

Me and Mrs going for the weekend. Not been to Shrewsbury before and, as Roger1960 says, it seems to offer so much for a break.
There's also a festival at the weekend, commemorating the Civil War Battle of Shrewsbury .

I went to the Shrewsbury cup match around three seasons ago and the drive down was that beautiful I decided to stay down there with the Mrs a month after and it's a really lovely place

my-colls - I live in Shrewsbury , if you want a nice meal - try the "Amoury" down by the river or the "Riverbank " which is next to it .

I live in Shrewsbury too, it's a cracking town, it has something for everyone, you won't be disappointed. Moved down here in the mid 80's from Brierfield for work. Was only supposed to be a temporary move but still here 40 year later.

We went down for the weekend earlier in the year and would have loved to have gone back again for the game but unfortunately have other plans.

The fa cup replay against them when John Bond was manager was pretty special.

Shrewsbury has some brilliant "real" pubs and I will second what was mentioned above "The Armoury" is lovely, especially for food, but I'd definitely book ahead.

Only a stones throw away then in Reedley. I do remember a shoe shop in Brierfield in the 70's, Colne Rd??

When ticket details were announced on the Club website there was a link to buy them from the home club but there's nothing showing on our ticketing site. I'll try to find the link.

I didn't realise this had finally appeared on YouTube, it was the holy grail of 90s highlights for a long time. Everything great about that era in here.

That made me laugh, especially John Deary's passion.
Good old Jimmy Mullen and those players that breathed new life into the Clarets...

Fantastic place is Shrewsbury. My father in law is there and my Grandparents lived not far away in Church Stretton, so I’ve spent a lot of time in Shropshire over the years. I will probably retire to Shropshire/Herefordshire with any luck. A world away from the slums of SE London.

Thanks. Just watched it again. I spotted it a while back. On the 15th December, 1992, I had been in Bangkok for two days following leaving Tokyo on the 13th, ending my three years plus over there.

I'm right in that mele behind the goals and remember it like it was yesterday. A goal down and reduced to 10 men. We'd no chance and then.....the last 5 minutes was utter mayhem! No wonder Mullen was so animated!

The only shoe shop on Colne Rd was Gala Shoes and that was Duke Bar.
The owner being Dr. Haq- my Science teacher at Walton.

Went to Shrewsbury in about 1982 - for a cup match. Got beat 1-0. Chic Bates.

Went on a Viscount Central with a Shrewsbury lad surname Gater who moved up here onto Regent Street. Good badminton player with a distinctly odd accent.

It was 1982, we’d beaten Runcorn, Bury & Altrincham in the previous rounds.

What a weird hobby you had in the early 70's walking the full length of Colne Road from Burnley to the far side of Brierfield counting shoe shops.

Hate to break it to you but you missed one...

Or the third option, "Shoe".

This variant is thought to have begun from a small group of emigre shoe merchants from the Burnley area, although shrowded in mists of time, historians cannot agree on a load of cobblers from Duke Bar or Briefield.

Expoultryboy and bpgburn, don't know if you ever went into the William Hill shop in Brierfield, but I was manager there from about 1980 to 1985, when I left to manage our shop on Scotland Road, Nelson. There for about 4 years till 1989, when I left the area for a few years.
