Skipper Josh Brownhill

Have I slept and missed something, or is Josh Brownhill future, allegedly not yet finalised, anywhere?
Is he still training with us and did he go to Portugal, unlike, Trafford, who was known to be going?
If not still with us, where is he?
If with us, what is his status?
All so strange, unless ge us the 'big unveil' to add the icing.

Without question one of the most bizarre transfer/contract sagas I can remember. He is never even linked with anyone anymore despite just scoring 18 goals in a record breaking promotion winning team and being in the prime of his career on a free transfer.

His contract ended 30th June and he has not been with the club at all during pre-season training, be that at Gawthorpe or in Portugal.

He’s signed for Padiham, along with his brother.

You've missed nothing, he didn't return for pre-season training on 30th June and was out of contract on the following day. We have to pay him throughout July so we will see what happens a week today. Last heard, he was training with a personal trainer out of the country.
Burnley removed him from the squad list some time ago.

Or maybe the reason he hasn't been snapped up yet is because he is asking absolutely crazy money from any interested teams?
A quality, proven player at Championship level but we should absolutely move on

I'd be more invested in the whole thing if he was actually good enough for the Prem. But he's not. Been brilliant for us, seems like a great lad and I wish him well with what I assume will be an exciting next move. But I haven't considered him or Trafford to be Burnley players since the final whistle against Millwall.

Don’t begrudge anyone trying to get a better deal for themselves or their family, he always gave 100% in my eyes right up until his last game which Is all a football fan can ask of a player really. Good luck to him but the sooner it’s announced either way the better. Hopefully a replacement is already being pursued.

He’s out of contract and looking for a new club.
There’s nothing strange about that.
He’s not doing pre season training with us.
He was excellent last season and a much improved player in my view.
He could still re - sign at Burnley, but I think it unlikely.

Why do we have to pay him throughout July? Is that common practice for why out of contract player?

That does seem odd that we pay for a month when no longer under contract

When the contract expires it automatically becomes a rolling 1 month contract until terminated by either party, which may be the case if we are hoping he stays and he’s hoping for more but will accept us as a last resort.
Personally if that’s the case I’d just let him go and move on.

Contracts end of June but paid to end of July.
I found out about that one 12 years ago when we had David Jones on trial. We opted to wait until August to sign him so Wigan could pay that final month. That’s how short of money we were at the time.

My guess is Brownhill’s agent massively over estimated Josh’s market value, Burnley’s offer was probably taken off the table a few weeks back. From some posts on here West Ham and Everton were sniffing around Josh but he wanted too much, plus a reported ridiculous signing on fee. If he’d found a PL club he’d be at pre-season training by now getting up to speed. Apparently he’s recently been in Toronto and Chicago testing the waters. Methinks Josh has found himself in the proverbial ‘rock and a hard place’

I dont undersrand why the club need to say anything, hes no longer employed by us. Time for everyone to let it go, it was pretty obvious this would happen at least 6 months ago.
I liked the lad but im really not fussed what he does now, hes done his job at Burnley.

I have a lot of admiration for Josh-he was superb this past season as player and captain. From what I have seen and have heard about him, I am a bit disappointed he has not made a farewell message to fans. THere may well of course be a very valid reason for his absence and silence-I am definitely prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt
I guess all will become clear soon

One things for sure if he does sign for us in the end
,highly doubt he gets straight back in after all the work we have done minus him. Obviously after a lump of a fee and fair play ti him! But is he really going to excite Everton or whu fans ? I think he is capable was looking forward to seeing him in this Parker team he was outstanding last year. Did ok under dyche, the Kompany team you can write off that season he well and truly lost the plot.

That’s interesting and gives a good indicator as to why some players don’t always rush to sign deals somewhere.
For brownhill though nearly 11 weeks since season finished for his career surely he would want to be at a club by now, playing friendlies, getting used to teammates and systems.

There is absolutely no need for the club to say anything unless we have released him.
With the retained list we confirmed that we were in discussions with Ashley Barnes, Josh Brownhill & CJ Egan-Riley.
The first time the club commented on any were
1. Egan-Riley, he's turned down our offer to take up an opportunity in France.
2. Barnes, he's signed a new one year deal.
I'm assuming that the discussions we were having with Brownhill resulted in us offering him a deal, if not, I'd have expected us to say something. If we did offer that deal then unless we have withdrawn it there is nothing really to say.

Surely Burnley’s contract offer has been taken off the table? If not, Brownhill has it safely tucked away in his back pocket saying more or less ‘if nothing better comes along, this’ll do nicely’. That doesn’t show a lot of interest in returning to the club, does it?

Can't recall who it was but I remember us withdrawing a contract offer under Coyle. I'm sure it was taken off the table after only about a day

Stan did it with Brian Reid and Coyle with either James O’Connor or Jon Harley or possibly even both.
There’s nothing to be gained in withdrawing it unless we’ve decided we no longer want him.
We won’t be the only club in this position nor will he be the only player.

The issue being that Brownhills salary needs to be used on a new centre mid if he doesn't sign. So at some point we may have to withdraw it if we decide to go for an alternative option

Josh Brownhill is no longer a Burnley player. He’s done.
I hope the contract that was on the table has been removed, and he’s now a free
Agent with no options here.
Good luck to him, but the fact that wolves and West Ham haven’t banged the door down And snapped up his services is indicative of his ability.
He’s not our skipper. Neither should he be. Never a captain.

Absolutely, and then we would sensibly withdraw it. I'm sure it is plainly obvious that he's opted to go elsewhere - he's not shown for training for four weeks so clearly sees his future elsewhere.

Ye but nothing says he can't change his mind if he's struggling to find the right club. That would be a tricky one for Parker if he's planned without him.

I suspect he’s got a club to be honest, I just can’t believe he would allow himself to be out of contract without having something sorted.
What we don’t know is what he’s doing. Maybe he’s in talks with us over a new deal. I suspect not but it’s all mysterious.

I doubt he would be training on his own with his trainer if he had a club but could be wrong. Starting to wonder if he hasn't received some of the offers he was expecting.
Other clubs will have spoken to him long before the end of the season so he will have had an idea about where he was going then. Very strange situation

Josh could end up falling between two stools what if he gets no offers then Burnley decide to withdraw the offer they have given to him sayiing that they can’t wait any longer for him to decide. Is he really looking for a new club or is he chasing a contract with a new club that will pay him considerably more than the Burnley offer. He doesn’t want end up being a make weight for a Prem League club and have very little game time In Josh’s case could be better the devil you know than one you don’t know

At the moment though the board have bought a Spanish Club but no centre forward , no Brownhill replacement

It’s not as simple as the board allowed 2 of the record breaking back 5 to leave. Egan-Riley decided not to accept a substantial pay rise, what else are the board supposed to do. Trafford is leaving for practically his buy back clause minus the 20% sell on fee, again what else are the board supposed to do. The big 6 always put clauses and buy backs on players they rate. It’s basically 13m profit on a glorified loan for Trafford.
Buying Espanyol has absolutely no baring on our hunt for a striker and centre midfielder.

It's far from irrelevant it's an existing thread & given all what's happened & not knowing brownhills eventual destination it's anything but irrelevant. If it was irrelevant the thread wouldn't exist & Josh would be settled somewhere else.
