With transfer fees going through the roof and players like Grealish going for £100m how much would these past PL players in their prime be worth now? Who would be worth the most?
Thierry Henry
Alan Shearer
Ruud van Nistlerooy
Eden Hazard
Frank Lampard
Wayne Rooney
Eric Cantona
Dennis Bergkamp
Sergio Aguero
Stephen Gerrard

For me, it would be Shearer, Rooney, Henry in that order.

Alan Shearer was the only one out of them to break the British transfer record and he did it twice.

Eden Hazard would command the biggest transfer fee for me. He had everything. Closely followed by Bergkamp.

Shearer/Rooney would command 150m + given the lack of “9’s” on the market at present.

Hard to tell really. If we’re saying transfers what happened then, happened now, then I’d say Rooney or Cantona.

Shearer pre injury was an absolute nightmare for defenders! My only issue with him is the fact he used to play for a s**t club wearing blue and white…….. just saying like

Ten quid and a packet of dolly mixtures.

Impossible to look beyond Shearer. PL all time top goalscorer at two clubs that didn't consistently win trophies.
Can you imagine how many more he would have scored at Manchester United or Liverpool?

Point of order: Liverpool consistently failed to win trophies for much of shearer’s career.

So you reckon that Henry was a better striker by far than Alan Shearer?

No one mentions Stevie G or Lampard. Two of the finest midfielders in PL history and doesn’t Lampard hold the record of most goals scored by a non striker or something like that. Stevie G knew where the goal was as well. In today’s market they would be worth far more than Jack Grealish .

Because they didn't have Shearer...

Could you honestly imagine any of those on the list tiptoeing around on the left wing trying to draw a foul. Hazard is possibly one but he had so much more.
Jack Grealish hasn't lived up to his hype and probably suffered because of the huge fee. He dithers around with the ball and virtually stops the play.
All of those on that list were far more effective with their teams.

Depends what age you were buying them at.
Most people seem to be rating them at the end of their careers.

Back to the question and Alan Shearer is way above the others and as strikers command the biggest fees, he is probably worth £20m more than whatever the record is and whatever it becomes.
If only he had been paid as much as a Chelsea Academy player gets

THIS!!
None of those had a big transfer either tbh. Nobody know what their value was when they played.
Maybe Rooney, Everton - Man Utd was like Grealish to City. Shearer transfer similar. But if we’re talking those transfers what happened and those clubs finished where they had when those transfers happened, Cantona from Leeds (Champions) to Man Utd a year after Cantona joined Leeds would be ridiculous in todays market.

Shearer and he would be worth the same as the the best current premier league striker.

Ignore my pre-edited reply.
Whoever was the Haaland of his day I'd imagine. The value of a player at the end of a successful carer (that list) is not going to be their peak value as their career is finished by the time they make the hindsight list. I'd go for the player on the list that was worth the most at 20/21. Rooney?

To me it just highlights the lack of overall quality in the game today, especially up front. Back then there were some amazing players. Forget about the athleticism side of things of today, those players were by far more enjoyable to watch than those today.

I think the Premier League itself was much more enjoyable back then.
The days of Fergie vs Wenger on the touchline. Keane vs Viera. It's not the same now.

I agree . There doesn’t seem to be any characters anymore. Even the managers are all stale. Wenger , Fergie, Mourinho , Ancelotti etc all made it a lot more interesting.
Posh and Becks
Rooney and the granny
Robbie Fowler snorting the touchline
Ashley Cole cheating on Cheryl
John Terry and Wayne Bridges missus
Gazza and Jimmy 5 bellies
Good old days when footballers were normal people
