To you all including you Lancs. I love you all really. Morrisons supermarket have decided not to sell Red Roses today. Not sure about that one. Anyway hope everyone regardless of which County you live in have a great day. I’m celebrating by introducing worms into my recently dug garden. What are you up to today. Ah’ll Sithee.

jd why do you support Lancs cricket instead of Yorks, is it because we’re not very good?
Hope the walk goes well by the way, forecast is okay.

1st Question in our quiz tonight was about Yorkshire day ...
Why is Yorkshire day celebrated on 1st of August.
The date itself, 1st August marks the anniversary of the Battle of Minden in 1759, where Yorkshire regiments fought with distinction.
Needless to say not many got the answer

I believe that is the last good day they could find to memorialise!

At least Yorkshire Day is in August. We're stuck with 27 November in Lancashire. I know why as that's the date Lancashire first sent a representative to parliament but could they not have picked something from a warmer month eg Battle of Bosworth, August 22nd.

As another with a foot in either camp, I tend to throw my weight behind whichever's the weaker party in any argument... So rather than my being a Lancastrian or Yorkist, I suppose I'm more of a Contrarian.
I have long remembered the father of some good friends (dyed in the wool Yorkists) interrupting one of our increasingly noisy debates over something county-related in the pub (probably because we were disturbing his domino match) by pointing out that while we all had our opinions, we were arguing over very little ('fine margins' in modern parlance), as whichever our loyalty, we all accepted that the other county came a very close second.
When that suggestion drew howls of dissent from us all, David supported it by stating: "Think about it lads, you've been arguing the toss for half an hour, but you wouldn't do that if someone from Nottinghamshire, Durham or any other county walked in here and tried to argue that their county was the best; you'd just sit the poor fellow down, buy him a beer and send someone to look for his Carer."
